Position by position for 2011

Michael Bush probably wont come in without a guarantee he will be allowed to compete for a starting job. I don't really want that kind of contoversy going on.

Why is it assuming too much that Phillips can come back healthy? After all, he will have had almost a full year to recover, and even if he isn't completely 100% it's not like we will be hard up at TE while he gets stronger. I can't imagine why we would use a draft pick on a TE.

As for Thomas Howard, he's a solid 4-3 OLBer, but he does nothing for us. He is too small and has no track record as a pass rusher for 3-4 OLBer.

Phillips will be back and healthy. Like you said he had an entire year. If we draft TE i have to assume it will be in the late rounds and it will be because its the best value available. We certainly don't need much help at the position though.

You're exactly right on Howard.. way too small for a 34 OLB. He'd get eaten up in our D. We need to start getting bigger, more physical 'backers to play our 34.

I agree that safety needs to be wiped clean. I'd like a combination of Donte Whitner and someone like Kenny Tate in the second.

Whitner doesn't make a lot of big plays, but if we can get a ball haw FS he'd be a good fit imo.

Both turned out to be very good players. Tough to say who i'd rather have right now. Dez has the potential to be a very special player though. Hard to pass that up.

Which would have helped us win more games? I think, at least this year, McCourty would have made a significant difference.

Good Post.

My thoughts:
QB- agree

RB- Jones and Choice but could see Choice going in a trade, Barber will be released

FB- like Gronkowski but the Stanford kid will be undrafted and I would bring him in for at least competition

TE- if Phillips back, great otherwise the Arkansas kid might be worth a late round pick

WR- Williams will be back like it or not, to big a cap hit to let him go in 2011, wouldn't mind Floyd or Toon at a 4th or 5th round pick, both are slotted there currently

OL- need to shore it up in free agency especially OG, believe Young is going to get the chance at RT but another FA would be great

K- it will probably be Brown and Beuhler

P- McBriar

LS- Ladouceur

DE- not sure who we keep from the Spears, Bowen and Hatcher but probably one stays, depending on how the draft goes, could see Darius or Quinn, probably see Geathers and Lissemore fight for a spot

DT- Ratliff and Brent

ILB- could see us drafting one here

OLB- probably stand pat

CB- will be an interesting off season here and see us drafting the LSU kid if available in the 1st although think he is gone by our pick, maybe a FA here though

S- overhaul coming, possibly Bailey as the FS with AOA as his backup, SS is going to be interesting but wouldn't mind signing Weddle in FA if possible

Really believe Jerry signs 3 to 5 impact FAs this year depending on how the CBA turns out.

Really could see our draft turning out something like this:

#9 - Darius or Quinn at DE
#40- Ingram RB or Love OT (believe the RBs are going to drop in this draft)
#71 - Dont'a Hightower ILB or Curtis Brown CB or Jared Crick DE/DT
#109 - Marcus Cannon OG or Chris Rucker CB/SS
5th - Malcolm Floyd WR or Toon WR
6th - Rashim Moore S or T. Taylor QB/WR
7th - OT or DE

I have noticed several people mentioning that they believe barber will be released and Choice may be traded. Considering that the Cowboys clearly don't view Felix as an every down RB, and considering that we would need a quality backup even if they did, why would we let both go? I guess the trade with Choice could be part of a scenario where we bring in another RB, but it seems kind of silly to work that kind of deal when we should be focusing more on positions where we have greater needs.

hmm..if Roy was gone, it would have been nice to have Patrick Crayton.

I wanted Devin McCourty so bad last draft, but then we got Dez and I was all :D
Me too.

Even after getting Dez, I was hoping McCourty would fall a little further and we would spring to get him. Sean Lee (if he can somehow stay healthy) is a potentially very nice consolation prize, imo.

QB: Romo
RB: Jones
FB: Free Agent
WR: Austin/Dez
TE: Witten/Bennett
G: Kosier/Free Agent
C: Gurode
T: Free/Free Agent
DE: Olshanshky/Spears
DT:Ratliff/Brent
LB: Ware/Spencer/Lee/James
CB: Newman/Jenkins/Draft Pick/Scandrick
S: Sensabaugh/Free Agent or Draft Pick

I think 5-6 new starters is pretty reasonable. Roy will either take a pay cut or play elsewhere but I think they'll look internally for a 3rd receiver. I'd like to seem them pick up a power RB who can play ST, maybe like Roy Helu. RT is definitely a priority position, along with FS, both could be addressed with high draft picks. I think we will be ok at ILB if we develop some of the guys we kept last year. I'd like to see one of the top 2 corners but that's unlikely. I do think they should look at bringing in another guy for serious competition. I also think they can bring in competition at RG without spending a high draft pick.

Oh very true.. as i said its a tough choice as both have been good players so far. As far as my draft choices though, im thinking more long term. Long term, Dez has the ability to be a Hall of Fame type player. I think he has more ability than McCourty.

You talking about Rahim Moore S UCLA here?

If so, there's no way in a blue hell that he lasts until the 6th round.

OFFENSIVE LINE: We need upgrades, primarily at RT. We also need to upgrade one of the interior linemen, and you can almost take your pick which one. My choice is Davis, who is slow footed and doesn't play with nearly the power a man his size should. Any upgrade beyond 2 people is probably a pipedream.

The big question here is Kosier, who is a UFA. At 32 and with his injury problems the past few years, do we sign him to another long term deal?

and Scandrick actually improved this year,

I think this is another interesting question mark.

He improved a ton once we started playing zone, where he is obviously far more comfortable. He was being regularly toasted in man to man when Wade was here.

If we bring in a DC that wants to go back to a primarily man system, you gotta take a good look at a backup plan for Scandrick IMO.

These are both very good points. I struggle with whether Davis or Kosier should be the first OG to be released simply because of Kosiers inability to stay healthy.
