Positions others worry about that you don't and vice versa

I am curious as to what positions you guys think the need is being overstated and which positions you believe need upgrading that you don't hear as much about.

For me there are a couple of positions on offense that some seem to worry about that I do not.

WR - I get that Twill and Butler are FA's and may be gone and I see some interest in drafting a WR fairly early or signing a bigger name FA.

For me I think this would be a waste of resources. We have Dez, the Bease and Witten. I also think Zeke should be a larger part of the passing attack and will be.. There will be plenty of low cost FA WR's floating around and there will be plenty in the later rounds of the draft for what we need. You can't have a cadillac at every position and I believe the resources are better used elsewhere.

Another position others seem to want address that I think can wait is TE. I know Witten is probably going into his last year but Hanna, Swaim and Gathers are potential answers that we can find out about this year. I see no need to use a premium pick or allocate a large amount of cap space towards the position now.

A position that I want to use a premium pick or significant resources via FA to fill that is not on the list of priorities for some others is SS. Personally I would make Eric Berry an offer he can't refuse even if it meant he was the only significant FA signing. I just think he is a proven commodity and you know what you are going to get and he would upgrade the defense tremendously.

I think signing Eric Berry would put us in the perfect position going into the draft. Getting a starting caliber edge rusher and a CB with the first two picks looks very doable to me with this draft class. The 3rd and 4th rounds looks like a good spot to nab a WR and RT depth.

It's always the same for me. Our fans have a CB fetish. And while Winicki's here wheeling himself down the halls peddling that smut every year like CowboysZone's own version of Larry Flynt, the need is always overstated. This year is no different. Resign one of Carr/Claiborne, add a late round pick to the mix to go along with Scandrick and Brown. Where is this dire need exactly?

WR and TE are two positions understated. The team needs them desperately or they are heading for a real crisis situation with no quality weapons for our overrated QB to throw to. Dez Bryant is uber talented but an overrated and inconsistent football player. Williams and Butler are FAs who you shouldn't want back. There is nothing else on the roster to play outside. Jason Witten was in decline years ago. He limits this offense with his inability to move and get down the field. Again, nothing else on the roster to replace him.

Very few would like a WR/TE first two rounds of this draft but I would most definitely be open to it. Depending on who those players are.

Can you imagine the uproar if we finally get on the clock and the top rated player is O.J.Howard !
I think he would be a stud, and tho not my first choice, I would not have a problem with it.

On another note, I don't see many calling for DT but that is one position I would also like to upgrade. Their are a few 1-techs I like in this draft, but they dry up pretty quickly.

This is an interesting take and really close to the opposite of how I feel.

Witten isn't good at getting down the field but he still produces and even if we draft a TE he is unlikely to see the field much. WR 2 and on our team really he would be WR 3 because Beasley in the slot is going to get a lot of looks doesn't look like a great place to use a premium pick to me.

If we ever get a CB that can create some turnovers it would be a huge plus for us.

WR - High Priority.
LB - Low Priority.

Dez goes down as he's been prone to do recently and you're left with Beasley and an old Witten. Even being left with a 3rd or 4th round rookie is an awful idea. The team needs to add a veteran who can start and a WR early in the draft. You're right, it is being understated.

WR - High Priority.
LB - Low Priority.

I definitely agree with you about LB. Especially since we spend a great deal of time with only two on the field at a time.

Damien Wilson seems to be improving and Nacho will be ready to show what he has. Hitchens isn't totally lost out there.

Lee and Jaylon Smith on the field at the same time might be a game changer.

I wouldn't waste any premium picks on a LB(excluding 3-4 OLB edge rusher types that would play DE for us.)

I dont see this, and TE is a big part of the offense here. Draft is deep at this position so I'd be surprised if they didnt grab one early. I think WRs on this team have always been over rated by most here also.

I'd also say LB is understated. Lee can never be counted on to play a full season. Don't think that changes in his 30's. Smith may or may not ever play. Nobody knows. Even if he does play you don't know to what level. After that you have a collection of roster fillers.

i LOVE witten but we need a TE that can stretch the field it would open things for a WR2 and running backs.
if Rico is the future answer then wait.

Witten isn't going anywhere next year so we may as well wait another year

what we are missing is an Odell type player on Offense,a guy who is Beasley like quick in and out of routes but can play both inside and outside,Twill can do it but he cant catch well.I like Dural and Carlos Henderson and i think one of them makes it to our 3rd rd pick.

I like Carlos Henderson too. I think he would fill two needs. WR and Kick returner. This is exactly the kind of player we should look for in the 3rd or 4th round and there are several of them. There is no way I would pick a WR or TE in the 1st or 2nd round with the needs we have.

people want OJ Howard and that would such a wasted pick,he cant block well and wont see the field on early downs for us.

Low priority- WR. We're a running team. You have Dez at #1, Bease is your de facto #2. You have a reliable TE in Witten. There just aren't a lot of opportunities for the other WR, so I'm not breaking the bank for it.

Low priority- LB. More often than not, you are only playing with two on the field, Smith can be considered a first rounder at the position for this year and we have one of the best in the game in Lee and another promising player in Wilson.

High priority- secondary. More often than not, we're playing with at least 5 DB's and we have a bunch of free agents.

I'd love a play making LB in the middle of the field. Obviously it depends on Jaylon's health, and it seems there's only a handful of people who know the real answer to that. But even counting on Jaylon(which I don't think you realistically can), Lee is still very injury prone and getting up there in years and contract $. If he plays 80% of his snaps again next season his total cap hit will be $14M and $10M in '18. I love Lee and he earned every dime this year, but it's never too early to think about a younger, cheaper replacement. Especially given how good LB's are routinely drafted in the 2nd/3rd rounds.
