There is always the churn before the first reg season game or at least in late training camp.

There are the surprise last-minute cuts (Oglesby) .. last-minute trades (Holland) etc.

What will the surprises be this year, as far as the 53 ???? ... Your 2 cents on what Wade & Co. are worried about, that they aren't talking about ...

Without any justification and due to my simple-minded kneejerk. And boredom and beer have brought me here tonight. Here's some opinions:

1) Kinda phasing out fullbacks. Deon Anderson, Tullius and these guys haven't gotten much talk. When was the last time in the SA blogs, MacMahon's running practice description, or anything, that you read that a FB made a good lead block, caught a swing pass, was involved in the offense, or anything? ... I wonder that because Phillips is a good blocker, maybe he or an OL-to-be-named-later can line up in short yardage if needed ... FBs may be on the street.

2) NT. Siavii hasn't been called out much. Will we save a spot and play M. Spears there?

3) Fear at CB. ... Courtney Brown and Mickens were the hopes, but neither has impressed so far. So much so that they are working DeAngelo Smith at CB (when they weren't going to, that was the game plan anyway) .. but now they wonder who can fill in at CB after cuts ... maybe Ball but I thought that was a permanent switch to safety. .. OK the best CB backup so far maybe has been Mike Hawkins, when is he going to get back in the lineup?

4) OT. No surprise. Cowboys scouts are like troubled bees at the moment trying to find some OL help ... we've got all our draft picks next year except for our fifth (?) but it's going to be a nice draft class next year so you think we wouldn't give up a pick too easy.

5) Buehler. After preseason, when teams have kickers are either injured or disappoint, there will be Buehler, who kicked a 75-yard field goal indoors in the Minnesota preseason game. He will fetch a good player when we have injuries or have needs.

Nice thread. Concerns for me are O-line depth. For the first time, I heard some good news on Doug Free. Hopefully we can catch lightning in a bottle with this guy.

After that, I will have to agree with ya again on back up DB's. Courtney has had a decent camp. Ball is there too. After that it's a crap shoot.

We are finished with week one. Let's discuss more towards the end of preseason and see how it all shakes out.

Punt returner ... since it seems we're stuck with YET ANOTHER season of Crayton returning punts.

I blame the front office for not getting a real punt returner for all these years. Hopefully that Deanglo dude can make something happen in preseason.

It's very unlikely any team is giving Dallas a good player for Buehler, or that Dallas will be looking to trade him.

It may be silly, but I would like to see a punt returner who wouldn't constantly carry the ball like it's a loaf of bread during the return. That's one of my pet peeves with Crayton returning punts. He doesn't fumble often, but he doesn't protect the football a great deal either.

Depth at NT and OL. It will be a very scary situation if we have injury issues at either position.

Offensive Tackle - And for me, there's not a close second. Yesterday's good reports about Free were encouraging, but every day I read about McQuistan being run over, around, and through. It's time to move on with him.

Center - Two words - Corey Procter.

I did feel uneasy about wide receiver, but thus far Austin and Hurd have stayed healthy and both look to be playing well - good news. And Kevin Ogletree also sounds like a find and I'm hopeful that he'll get the #5 receiver spot.

Depth at every position except for RB, QB, and CB is a concern. This team's lack of depth showed last year, and this year is no different. We better hope they stay relatively healthy, because the alternatives are looking pretty bleak.

Im pretty confident in all of our starters. We built a great team in the salary cap era.

Same as others. OL and NT are my biggest concerns. I'm not too worried about S or CB. We have several S/CBs who can fill in nicely should we lose a player. Brown and Ball are hybrid S/CBs. The reports about M Hamlin are encouraging. I don't expect much except on STs this year but he has the look of a player. Whether it's the 2007 or 2008 Clemson Tiger I don't know but he has a shot and could be a steal at 5.

We are thin at the Mike. Stewart can play that position. And I think Octavian could if they'd give him some reps there.

Why are you giving up on D. Smith for the job?

Good post. Barley & Hops clear the mind.

I have to go with Theo and his view on the o-linemen. Hard to grade them out effectively in a practice situation. Now if they're being butt-planted or flat out blown past consistently..............it is what it is.

I love a good fullback. Was hoping for a good one since the departure of Moose. Never happened. I just don't see a future here as well. We got two TE sets, etc. and a slew of good running backs, where do you justify that?

CB - I'm finally at least content with what we have. It's been a long time coming for that particular positiion. IMO - Henry had only 2 good years, his first and second, and flatlined after that but now I've got hope at least.

Sensabaugh seems to be a GREAT pickup. Thank the Lord.

All in all I don't put too much stock into TC and the reporting therein. It's in a constant state of conflict and not being there, like that'd help me at all, only constitutes wait 'til the season starts and then come Nov. Wade is no help at all.

I think Laudensauceur (sp?) will get the axe. Yes, he may be top-notch at snapping the ball for kicks, but if the Cowboys can find another player who can snap decently but already plays another position, the they'll cut Laudensauceur because Buehler is already taking up an extra spot on special teams.

NT - no way we use Spears as our backup - he is our starting DE and frankly there is a huge dropoff behind him. Staff likes Saivii -- even if he is totally incabable of finding work when he isn't in Dallas.
