The bottom line @xwalker is it was bad football all around that cost us the game.

If you are referring to the Cowboys offense, then I agree.

The defense did their job by limiting the Saints to 12 points.

Once the score was 12-10, the Cowboys got 3 more chances to take the lead and two of those chances were not time limited.

Absolutely. It just was ugly. One of the games you just gotta burn the tape and move on.

Losses are more interesting to analyze...

I've re-watched the Cowboys-Rams game 50 times.

I've re-watched the Cowboys playoff win over the Seahawks 1 time.
True. There are some teaching moments that the coaches probably harped on. Shows what you need to work on.

Nope.

Cowboys D allowed Saints to eat up clock and drive down the field with ease.

Wow, man you can watch that beating of our DL so many times ?

If I just narrow it down to re-watching the Rams offense vs the Cowboys defense on run plays, then it's more than 50 times...

Once is enough for me, you sir are the epitome of a glutton for punishment!! :muttley:

Had the Cowboys been neutral on turnovers(minus the hail mary attempt) they would of won that game.
Oh well, just one of those low scoring games that was winnable.

Offense didn't execute. Our own players are stating this.

Dallas did not play well enough to win, end of story. NEXT there are 16 games in a season and at no point did I think Dallas would go 16-0. GB is up next and right now it is the most important game because it is the next one.

I think the offensive game plan was to not beat ourselves. It actually would have worked. Not that I agree with it, but we had some costly turnovers in key positions anyways. We win that game 9 out of 10 I believe.

NO did more than score 12 point.
They kept the ball away from Cowboys' offense.
Look at the time of possession in the second half. I think NO kept the ball about 3 times longer.

This is why the only stats I pay attention to really are turnovers, red zone percentage, and 3rd-down conversion percentage.

Any way you look at that saints game makes your head hurt....

Everything we did well we refused to re-run it and just kept being stubborn

There are two components to time of possession.
  • How long the opponent has the ball and how long the Cowboys have the ball.
  • The best way to look at that is time of possession per offensive series.
  • Each team had 4 possessions in the 2nd half.
  • With 30 minutes per half & 8 total drives, that's 3min & 45sec per drive on average available.
  • The Cowboys offensive failed to meet that 3:45 benchmark on 3 of the 4 drives.
  • Cowboys drives 2 & 3 of the 2nd half were 2:15 & 1:29 despite no time constraints on those drives.
  • The Cowboys Defense had Zero Fault for those possessions only being 2:15 & 1:29.

After the Saints last score to put the score at 12-10, the Cowboys offense got 3 more chances to score but failed.
  • The Cowboys offense had as much game clock remaining as needed on the next 2 drives after the last Saints score.
  • Cowboys 1st drive after the score was 12-10: 12 total yards, one 1st down, punt.
  • Cowboys 2nd drive after the score was 12-10: 8 total yards, punt.

Cowboys 3rd drive after the score was 12-10:
  • This drive was time limited with 1:39 remaining in the game.
  • The Cowboys had a sack and an offensive pass interference penalty on the drive.
  • They had time to run 8 plays but didn't advance the ball past the 50.
  • They had to attempt the Hail Mary 52 yards from the endzone.

Summary:
The Cowboys offense had 3 opportunities to take the lead only needing a field goal but they failed.
