Pros: Lowry is a smart, heady defender who reads and reacts quickly and knows his responsibilities within a defense and has the athleticism to carry them out. He tests out more than adequately on speed and quickness, combined with his fine intangibles allows him to be a well-developed performer. He is a sure tackler who plays bigger than his size. He has good movement skills with the ability to change directions easily and go sideline to sideline. In pass coverage, he grades out well in @#%$ coverage where he has the speed to cover the deep zones and shows the burst to close on the underneath patterns. He invariably seems to always be around the ball. While he is only an average athlete, he is very sudden in his movements.
Cons: He can be overaggressive at times and fail to make the tackle. His overall coverage skills are only average, mainly due to little experience in man situations. His ability to cover the slot receiver or tight end will determine if he can play in the dime package and ever challenge for starting time. He is best suited for @#%$ coverage.
Numbers: At the Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds with a 36” vertical jump and 10’ broad jump. He did 15 reps in the 225-pound bench press. His agility drills were among the best times for the position.
Skinny: He is a tough athlete with marginal size with the athletic ability and intangibles to possibly start in the right setting. Decent special teams performer, but his return skills may never be better than a backup. He is a fast-riser and possible late pick.

Pat Watkins

Safety

Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 210 pounds
Class Year: Sr
Experience: 3V
High School: Lincoln
Hometown: Tallahassee, FL
40 time: 4.5 seconds

NFL Draft Summary

Frank Coyle: He is similar to the Jaguars’ Donovin Darius in size, athletic ability and level of development. He is an imposing athlete with an early starting grade, but needs some development in pass coverage. He is a top-100 prospect with the talent to be a fine player with some work. Teams like the Giants and Dolphins are interested late on the first day, likely in the third round. [More]

Pros: Watkins is a top ball-hawk who has a burst to the ball to make the big play and finish with sure, strong tackling. He has fine range with the ability to make up huge chucks of yardage using his speed and long strides to cover the field. He is a very big, tall and smooth safety that has good natural instincts and looks great when playing center field at the free safety spot. He has very good hip turn for a man his size. He knows how to use his size to get high in the air and snatch or deflect a ball above the reach of most players. He is very intelligent and knows how to use good angles to his advantage. He is a solid, reliable tackler who wraps up consistently. He has the size and speed to match up well with big receivers and tight ends.
Cons: His coverage skills have progressed, but still needs work, especially his ability to match up in man. In run support, he is not a big hitter. He needs overall strength development that will elevate his power significantly.
Numbers: At the Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds with a 41” vertical jump and 11’1” broad jump. He did 14 reps in the 225-pound bench press.
Skinny: He is similar to the Jaguars’ Donovin Darius in size, athletic ability and level of development. He is an imposing athlete with an early starting grade, but needs some development in pass coverage. He is a top-100 prospect with the talent to be a fine player with some work. Teams like the Giants and Dolphins are interested late on the first day, likely in the third round.

Ko Simpson

Safety

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 201 pounds
Class Year: So
Experience: 1V
High School: Rock Hill
Hometown: Rock Hill, SC

NFL Draft Summary

Frank Coyle: He has the physical and mental style of play that NFL teams want and is similar to Deon Grant in size, athleticism and level of development. He needs time to fully develop and teams that ask him to do too much too soon could be disappointed. He is a top-50 prospect, who could go even higher with a run on defensive backs expected. Teams like the Bengals, Jaguars and Chiefs are most interested and he is projected to be a second-round selection. [More]

Pros: Simpson is an athletic, third-year sophomore who declared for the draft after only two seasons in college. He is a big, smooth athlete with the talent to become a starter with development. He has the ability and makeup of a blue-chip prospect. He has good size and very good speed, enabling him to get in on a lot of plays. He has fairly good instincts to read and react to the play and gets to the ball consistently. He can cover a lot of ground from his free safety spot where he played as a freshman before moving to the rover defender position last fall. In pass coverage, he matches up nicely with slot receivers, which will enable him to play in the dime package early in his career. He also has the recovery speed to blanket fast receivers in the deep game.
Cons: He makes a lot of tackles, but is not a physical, big-hitting type. His level of development is a definite concern. He can be slow to react and needs development on his play recognition. He needs strength development to be more than a wrap-up tackler. He has limited experience playing in @#%$ coverage and faces a steep learning curve.
Numbers: At the Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds with 40.5” vertical jump and 10’2” broad jump. He did 11 reps the 225-pound bench press.
Skinny: He has the physical and mental style of play that NFL teams want and is similar to Deon Grant in size, athleticism and level of development. He needs time to fully develop and teams that ask him to do too much too soon could be disappointed. He is a top-50 prospect, who could go even higher with a run on defensive backs expected. Teams like the Bengals, Jaguars and Chiefs are most interested and he is projected to be a second-round selection.

Not too bad...

not in the 4th but I like Greg Threat from Miami, maybe one of our 6th round picks to develope after Coleman. Dont pay too much attention to the 40 time though its not official and he plays a lot faster than that.

Pros: Threat is a well-built athlete who runs well and has the instincts and intangibles to play either strong or free safety. He acted more instinctively this fall, which allowed him to make more big plays than earlier in his career. He can match up in pass coverage with the speed and change of direction skills to cover wide receivers. He is usually a reliable tackler with the ability to make plays at the line of scrimmage or in the open field. He reads the run very well and is very quick to support and get in on the action.
Cons: He has a high backpedal and will lose a step in transition. He has a tendency to look into the backfield too much and will lose track of the receiver. He needs to be more consistent in his reads and assignments.
Numbers: He did not attend the NFL Combine. At the Miami pro day, he had times of 4.61 and 4.63 seconds in the 40-yard dash. His shuttle times were 4.18 (short) and 11.96 (long). He also ran 7.20 in the cone drill with a 33” vertical jump, a 9’7” broad jump. He did 10 reps in the 225-pound bench press.
Skinny: He is a late pick with make it grade and a possible starter in the dime package. He is capable of being an outstanding late addition with the talent to fill a few roles in the secondary in addition to special teams. He is a cover-two defender at the next level with the ability to become a key backup in multiple packages. He is a good late pick or high-priority free agent with some upside.

I hate to say this, but if Brandon Marshall (the WR from UCF) is there for us in the 4th, I'd want him and safety can wait one more rd.

Nice post. I'd have to put in my vote for Watkins. He sounds like the "ball hawk" kinda guy everyone has been whining about, and he's tall and fast.

I've been hearing KO Simpson since the 2nd round .. what happend Ko Simpson fans?

:laugh2:
