If Tank plays well upon his return and Ratliff continues to play well.

Could Ratliff play LE and Tank the NT spot as starters?

Next year: Tank-LE, Ratliff-RE, Fergy-NT?

Sounds good to me.

I think J-Rat has earned the right to start ahead of Tank. They'll probably rotate but J-Rat starts.

Next year is next year.

With everyone stepping up their play all the sudden we are ging to have a real logjam on the defensive line next year. Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Johnson, Ratliff, Ferguson, and even Bowen has stepped up his play.

for this year he will backup jay. but i could see having them both in there on some obvious passing downs.
as for next year fergy if healthy will be back. he is good against the run. then we will see how we use tank, but jay will have a big role on this team for a long time.

Ferguson has 2 years left on his contract so I see him certainly playing it out and starting for us. Ratliff & Tank Johnson will occasionally spell Ferguson but Ratliff & probably Johnson can also play DE so both can spell Spears & even Canty along with Hatcher, etc.

Rat and Tank will rotate. Our 3-4 DE's are doing fine. We are stopping the run and doing a good job on freeing up our rushers.

Not tpo mention help turn the ball. 3-4 DE's rarely get gaudy sack numbers and Joe Fan sometimes extrapolates wrongly they are not doing their job.

why? he has played very well and its not as if his injury isnt one that players typically return to form. Ferguson is a good player at a reasonable deal that we have under contract.

The way I see it they all will rotate in to stay fresh for the next few years. We will not be able to keep everyone as contracts come up. If Spears wants big money, I see him being allowed to leave unless he picks up his game substantialy. Ratliff will certainly be re-signed. Canty should be as well unless we just can't afford him. I think they'll want to keep Hatcher and Tank but again it will depend on their play and the money they are asking for. Fergy should be back and should play out his contract, after that he is gone.

With Fergy coming back and Tank under contract for next year, I don't see a DL being a big need in the draft unless Tank doesn't work out. I go CB, WR, RB, LB in the draft next year.

Yikes, another LB? I'd like to draft a QB in the 3rd-5th range to develop IF we don't get Andrew Walter when he's released. I really liked Trent Edwards in last year's draft, but he went earlier than I wanted and we weren't in the market anyways.

while it may sound strange to draft another LB a good ILB would vastly help this defense become what we all want it to. I don't think Bobby Carpenter is the answer...I think Bobby would be a pretty decent OLB in a 4-3

If Tank plays well, or as well as Ferguson, I wouldn't be suprised to see him gone

I don't think about next season much, but wow are we stacked. Plus, Wade will really have this defense gelling by next season. If it was an achilles I would say Fergy is done, but not from his injury. Draft a CB early and we may have the best defense in the league.
