Possible Path to a WOW player
1. Miami has the first pick in each round of the draft
2. Parcells runs the Miami draft
3. Miami needs players more than picks
4. Parcells likes players he knows
5. Parcells does not want to pay 60 million dollars guaranteed to an unproven rookie
6. A new Miami owner (Ross) will soon take over control
7. A fast start is imperative for both Parcells and Sparano
8. A fast start is more likely with well-known veterans than rookies
9. Miami needs young defensive and offensive players, like Spears, Carpenter, and Fasano
10. Spears and Carpenter were first round picks; Fasano was second round; all were selected by Parcells
11. With Tank Johnson at nose tackle, Jay Ratliff is now listed on the depth chart as a DE; Zack Thomas is listed at LB; Tony Curtis is listed as TE, possibly making Spears, Carpenter, and Fasano expendable
12. Dallas might find it worthwhile to offer Miami its pick #28, together with Spears, Carpenter, and Fasano, in exchange for Miami’s pick #1 and an exchange of second round picks (#32 and 61)
13. Such a trade should be easy for Miami to sell to its fans: two first round players and one second round player for no more than an exchange of first and second round picks, keeping a full complement of picks for each round, and escaping the cost of high picks
14. Dallas should be able to sell the trade to its fans: the #1 pick in the draft and the first pick in the second round for no more than exchanging picks in two rounds and relinquishing three players it could do without, while retaining two picks in the first round and all the rest of its picks
15. Dallas could then make a WOW selection with the first pick or trade it. The fly in the ointment is the hit to the Dallas cap, both from the traded players and the cost of high draft picks.
