Possible reason they chose Howell over Milton

Saw a Commodes fan wearing a Howell jersey a couple of days ago. Guy must feel.sick that he's walking around with a Cowboys players name on his jersey!

If Dak has to miss a couple games, we must then sign a backup that has to be ready in 5 days in case our backup gets banged up.

If Dak gets hurt for an extended period, the season is over anyway.

Cowboys fans are starving for a 6’5” 235-240lb QB with a Bazooka for an arm and who can run around and through defenders. This is why people don’t like the choice between the two qb’s. People want hope.

His last game really gave him the edge I'm not sure I'm buying that, however I do feel like he's the more traditional option to have at QB. Not saying he's great, not saying that Milton sucks. It's a trust issue to me

This is what I don’t get. In fact the league ought to mandate that teams carry three QBs. You’re two plays away from direct snapping to a RB.

As much as the league promotes these games, do they really want that? The Covid situation with Denver, or SF at Philly in the CG.

Just don’t get the severe roster restrictions.

Because if you get to the 3rd QB, ur screwed anyway. Plus, that roster spot is needed at other positions.

This decision was made in the offseason after watching Milton fumble fart is eat through last season.

You don't pay a QB $2.5 million to come in here if you like Milton.

Howell is simply better. Considerably.

If Milton had anything, he would have been scooped up 5 minutes after they released him. The league isn't impressed.

Exactly! I feel like Howell can run an NFL offense better in the regular season and throws the short balls and mid range with more consistency. Cowboys made the right choice.

They've kept just two on the 53 numerous times.

A third QB is going on the practice squad. If it's not Milton it will be somebody else.

People can't seem to grasp this. They prefer to meltdown as if the season is over because Dallas cut a QB that showed progress in meaningless exhibition games.

This might have been mentioned in one of the other threads, but just in case it was not ..

I'm not sure the decision was based on which player was better.

If the Cowboys had released Howell and no one claimed him, they would have still had to pay him $2 million for the 2026 season (it's guaranteed) along with the $500k already paid to him as a signing bonus (so $2.5 million money and salary cap hit).

By releasing Milton, if he's not claimed then the Cowboys owe him nothing and will take no salary cap hit and can bring him back to their PS if he wants to return.

Since Schottenheimer said they were "neck and neck", that likely explains why they chose to release Milton when they needed the roster spot for Demearcado.

I think the idea that they might be able to bring Milton back to the PS is valid.

But Howell's cap hit is a sunk cost, and you can always just look at it as the cost of the backup QB, whether it is Milton or Howell.
