Possible trade targets besides Crosby

So, I've been thinking. If the Raiders aren't going to trade Crosby, who would be some other possible trade targets we can get besides Crosby? With how our offense is playing, I think all we have to do is try to get this defence competitive, and maybe we can have a run at the division? We have one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL right now. We have a kicker who, if you put the ball at about midfield, he's likely to make it. What we need is to get this defence at least average. Bland looked to be close to back to form on Sunday. Shemar James wasn't bad. We have a few pass rushers, and Overshown is coming back soon (though, it might take him a few games to get back to form). I also liked that Bridges (25) player that was playing. He looked decent. I know the Commanders were down some key receivers, but maybe we have something in him?

I've got a few ideas for how to possibly get this defence to where we can become a potential contender. Here are my top 5 ideas:

  • Bradley Chubb - he's a linebacker on the Dolphins and is very good. The Dolphins defence isn't bad. They're just hamstring with a disaster of a QB. He's very good at stopping the run, and, since Eberflus has finally decided to start blitzing, you can't ask for a better blitzing linebacker on a crap team than Chubb. I don't think he'd cost more than a 2nd, and Jerry tends to waste those anyway.
  • Carl Granderson - a DE for the Saints who had 5.5 sacks in 2024 and has 4.5 this year along with 21 solo tackles so far. I don't think he'd cost more than a mid round pick, and I think he'd be a quietly good pass rusher for us.
  • Devin White - he's on the Raiders, but he's usually a good linebacker. Probably wouldn't cost much for us to get. They might not trade us Crosby, but maybe the Raiders deal us White?
  • Quinnen Williams - this NT of the Jets would be quite the haul for us, but he would likely be rather expensive. That said, if we can get him, he'd likely be a very good run stopper for us. Him, Osa, and Clark would be a dangerous combo.
  • Thomas Booker - just signed with the Raiders this year after a few years with the Eagles, this is a player that probably isn't loving the Raiders. However, he's not a bad linebacker, and he probably wouldn't cost us much. He's a DT that could be a good option up front next to Clark. Maybe Mazi and a late round pick would do to get him here?
I am certainly not saying to trade for all of these. But maybe we can get one or two of these players? At least 3 of them probably wouldn't cost us much, but they might give us a fighting chance at making our defence better. I think these are moves worth making to see if maybe we can get our defence to at least average if not very good (id say very good if we got Williams, Crosby, or Chubb and maybe a cheap player or two).

Chubb isnt a game changer. Is he even that much better than what we have? Hes not even better than Jaelon Phillips. We might as well keep our picks.

Great post Rusty.

I would not mind Chubb at all and do not think he would cost a 2nd because of his contract. I have seen a 4th.

Granderson would also be a solid pickup for cheap.

This is one time where I want Jerry to stay as a near do nothing GM. Keep the picks. There's no realistic way to turn this defense into a championship caliber defense with one or two players.
Yup which is why I'm looking forward to seeing what happens vs DEN and how DAL and Jerry responds.

I'd take Phillips too. But I think Chubb is a solid player. He'd easily be our best blitzing linebacker.

Honestly, a 4th for Chubb and a late round pick and/or Mazi for Granderson would be an AMAZING sets of trades. Jerry really should. Besides, we're likely getting a few 4th round comp picks for some of the players we lost in FA.

I would like to see Chubb here, the reason Jerry might not do it is the $20M due in 2026 and 2027.

Yep, I would rather they pickup a couple of blue chip LBs and DT or DE in the draft and have them on their rookie deals.

Load up on D in the draft and FA.

It doesn't necessarily have to be championship caliber. It just needs to be at least average to slightly better than average. If our offense keeps playing like it does, then Chubb and Granderson joining the team might be enough. Besides, Granderson would give us an improved pass rusher, and Chubb gives us a run stopper and a good blitzing linebacker. Plus, if we can win the division, and if we can get our defence average to better than average, then that's a big win. Plus, these are two players as likely can keep beyond this year.

Honestly, those are not bad numbers for a linebacker of his caliber. Plus, if he can get us to at least the NFCC or better, then isn't it worth it? Heck, think of the message adding him and/or Granderson sends to the team. It says we're going to make a run at it. Think that won't fire up the team even more?

Suppose we can get Chubb for a 4th and maybe Diggs, wouldn't it be worth it? Who's a better linebacker we can get in the 4th round than Chubb? Or, with Granderson, tell me a DE we can get who's better in a mid/late round portion of the draft?

You will get nothing

Jerry would be foolish not to at least see how good of a deal we can get for these players. If they can make our defence competitive, we at least have a shot at catching the Eagles and trying to make a run at it.

They have a decent shot at Crosby.
