I didnt even realize I was close to it until Hos sent me a PM...had no idea it was that many...I guess it can be attributed to alot of things...this is a great forum for one, lots of good talk here and lots of great people who like to talk Cowboys...of course with the good comes the bad, and I'm sure alot of my posts are replies to the idiots as well (some of whom are gone)...anyhow, here are some random thoughts:
1) Everyone of us should be glad to have this place...there are alot of good people on here, alot of people who get info for all of us and share it asap...alot of us dont live in Big D and those that do, do a great job of getting stuff out to the rest of us...also, the people that run this place (and own, Reality) do a great job, and no Hos didnt get me to say that I've been on virtually every Cowboys forum created since back to the old AOL message board days, and this is definitely the best. It's also the only one I post at now.
Now onto football stuff:
2) It took some time, but the GROZ movement has really taken hold and has become a runaway train. We now have 1000's (if not millions) of supporters, and hopefully we will finally see the fruits of our work in early January, when the ultimate Village Idiot finally cleans out his office at Valley Ranch. It's been 7 long years of suffering through no pass rush, no hits on the QB, few turnovers or game changing plays, shoddy run defense & blown 4th quarter leads, but finally we may enter a season with hope for otherwise, when at the very least someone new is here running the D
3) While us GROZ-ers are happy, GROTA (Get Rid of Them All) may be the only movement that really changes anything here. Bill Parcells WAS a great coach, but that was the mid to late 80's (and 1990). The game has clearly passed him by, and even with a new defensive coordinator I'm not sure how much would change. Parcells did a great job upgrading this roster, really. The problem is his schemes are too simple and vanilla, and the talent is wasted.
4) Thread after thread of bashing our players, and really until we get good coaching here its a waste of time...honestly. There are some who deserve criticism, guys like Rivera, Vanderjunk, Bledsoe and Keith Davis perhaps, but for the majority we simply dont have the quality coaching necessary.
5) Offensive players of the yr- Romo and Barber, even though niether had the kind of games we wanted this past week.
6) Defensive players of the yr- Ware and Newman...Ware is gonna be really good, REALLY good, once Zimmer and Parcells are gone. (and he's pretty damn good now) It seems alot of people think we're locked itno a 3-4, but this guy could be an ideal 4-3 RDE and probably be alot more productive too...It's a freaking crime that Newman isnt going to Hawaii, but the guy is money in coverage and like most of our guys, Newman's numbers will improve with a smarter defensive scheme.
7) If Parcells is back, I think Owens will be too...if Parcells isnt back, I think it depends on who the new coach is whether Owens is back or not. Reason is this, Parcells probably wont have as much influence on team decisions if he is back because Jones sees Parcells is not the all-knowing he thought he was getting. Some new coaches could come in and be confident they could handle Owens (someone like Jimmy perhaps)...others might insist Owens be gone if they are coming on board. (Probably college coaches like Miles or Petrino if they were offered the job)
8) Positions we need to upgrade, either through free agency or draft...RG, maybe one of the tackle positions (I'd move Adams to RT if we could get a good LT prospect, Columbo has been adequate, but he isnt dominant, if we cant get a big upgrade at LT then I'm fine with Adams/Columbo again for next yr), if Owens is gone we need another WR, although I do like Crayton and Hurd. If we switch back to a 4-3 scheme we might need another DT (I say might, because Ferguson is probably fine for 1-2 more years, Ratliff is a possiblity and moving Spears to DT is an option too) and FS, although I think Watkins will be good eventually with more experience and better coaching, and I think Henry is a possibility at FS as well if they got another good CB...we could also use a quality KR/PR guy.
9) breakout player for 2007...If there is a new HC, I'm going with Julius Jones, because the kid has talent and we all saw how explosive and dominating he could be as a rookie. A smart new HC might implement a system better suited for him, and 1400-1600 yds wouldnt be shocking to me
10) on Romo, while he has been good I think he can be better, and I think he's better suited to a WC type system
