I was too busy this year to get a mock in. I know, most of you guys missed it. Barely any mocks out there anymore. Lol

But did want to share my thoughts on the Boys draft. I'm not a big fan of it. Here's why.

We had our pick of the litter in regards to WR. The board couldn't have broke better for us and we wiffed. Now, we did our due diligence on the prospects and must have thought better of LVE and this FO has earned my trust, but I was disappointed, for sure. LVE- B

Second round. I thought we did ok. Fills a need and I think our other targets we're gone. Should compete to start at LG day one. Connor-B+

Third- hate this pick. Not the player, the pick. If you're going to draft this wr here, why not the better version of him at 19 and take the LB here?
Gallup- C

4th- a waste. Undersized and doesn't fit our scheme. Projects as a 34 OLB to me. You'll get these picks in the draft.
Armstrong- D+

4th round. Like this pick. Could be a nice compliment to Rico and could develop into a pass catcher.
Schultz-B+

5th round- I like this pick ok. Camp arm, competition. Might make the squad and develop.
White-C+

6th round. Another waste. I'm a big 10 guy and this was a waste. Covington- D

6th round. 2 number 2wrs don't make a 1... Wilson-C-

7th round- Like this pick more and more. If he can return to form after injury he could be a nice one cut and go back with some bruiser to him. My kinda late pick, like Gathers a couple years back.
Bo- B

All in all i think it was a sub part draft that could produce a few role players, but had opportunities to change this team for the next 10 years and didn't.

Wait for my famous "what i would have done" draft. Always a hit

Yet 3 teams got an "elite" grade for thier draft and yes the Cowboys were one of them.

You need to take what you would have done out of your draft review.

Just because the Cowboys didn't do what you wanted doesn't mean they were bad picks.

I would have liked Skai Moore at some stage, probably ahead of Wilson as I also felt we needed a big bodied RB.

If you think 6th round Wilson is a #2 WR then that is an easy A draft pick.

The drop off in MLB talent was much bigger than that of WR from round 1 to 3. The FO was right to do MLB first then come back to WR.

Who said it was elite? Cowboys month pieces? I've seen nothing but average reaction from "experts".

I have no issues with the LVE pick especially if he was the top guy on the board, but the problem is have is with the context in which it happened. We could have easily moved down a few spots and gotten him.
Look at the packers for example, they trade down from 14 to 27 with the Saints. Give 14, get #27 + plus next years Saints first founder and this years 5th round pick.
Next they trade with Seattle and move back up to 18th. They got the 18th plus a 7th rounder, while the Hawks got 27, plust a third and sixth.
Packers also got the best CB in the draft.
In summary LVE was good, but getting him at 19 was not the right move.

I would love to know which WR was a better version of Gallup that they should of taken at 19?

This draft was full of WRs with flaws, there was no value in taking one in the first round.

I agree with you somewhat. First you need trading partners and second you don't want to risk losing him. The Titans and Steelers were right behind and probably would have taken him. Titans took Evans so it shows they were interested in MLB as well.

Hated I wasted my time opening what turned out to be a school girl rant about what didn't go the op's way.

You should spend less time on Forums... you're going to find they are full of peoples rants and opinions. If you don't like reading them, maybe move along? But I'm glad you "wasted" more of your time and gave this stellar reply!

Also, this is my recap, it doesn't have what I would have done. Just my feelings on the draft class we selected. My next thread will be what I would have done.

Interesting read.
1 (19) Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State, 89.8
2 (50) Connor Williams, T/G, Texas, 85.7
3 (81) Michael Gallup, WR, Colorado State, 92.1
4 (116) Dorance Armstrong Jr., Edge, Kansas, 78.5
4 (137) Dalton Schultz, TE, Stanford, 82.1
5 (171) Mike White, QB, WKU, 84.2
6 (193) Chris Covington, LB, Indiana, 85.5
6 (208) Cedrick Wilson, WR, Boise State, 89.2
7 (236) Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama, 75.6

Day 1: Dallas made some interesting picks in the draft, and none more than their top pick of Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch. Despite being older than the other top linebackers in this class, Vander Esch is actually younger than all of them in terms of playing time experience, with just one season of significant playing time in college. That season though was spectacular, seeing him lead the nation with 76 defensive stops and showing the kind of flow to the football that teams love. His potential remains high because of that lack of experience, and if he can develop his coverage skills to match his run defense he could quickly become one of the game’s best linebackers.

Day 2: When the Cowboys were at their best, they had the league’s most dominant offensive line, and they’re trying to get back there with the offseason hire of offensive line coach Paul Alexander and now selecting Connor Williams in the second round. Williams was the No. 2 tackle on our draft board and allowed just one sack across three seasons of play for Texas. He has shown excellent pass-blocking and run-blocking skills and looked to have the ability to stay outside at tackle but was seen as a candidate to move in to guard by many. Dallas could use an upgrade at either right tackle or left guard, and they will need to decide how they are going to deploy Williams and La’el Collins to best improve those two positions.

The Cowboys also added a PFF favorite, Michael Gallup, the highest-graded wide receiver in the nation in 2017 and one of the most productive players in college football. Gallup faced press coverage on 64 of his targets in 2017, catching 30 of those passes for 568 yards, and showed well at the Senior Bowl against improved competition.

Day 3: Dallas grabbed QB Mike White in the fifth round to back up Dak Prescott. He posted the sixth-highest grade in the draft class on deep throws. Cedrick Wilson adds nice receiver depth to this group and at 6-foot-3, he gained 4.6 yards per route against Power-5 competition in 2017, leading the FBS. With their last pick, they grabbed Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough, who never quite lived up to his huge frame, breaking 62 tackles on 267 college carries.

Overall grade: Elite

They have a much higher grade on Connor and Gallup than most... Again, I like the Connor Pick. Thanks for sharing.

I'm surprised Vander Esch didn't get drafted earlier. He is less risk than Edmunds. More likely to understand the complexities of NFL schemes and better measurables in most areas except the forty.

Your big misunderstanding is on the WR Gallup. Just because the draft media was not all over him. Some people actually had him rated higher than Ridley.
They were to two best route runners in this draft and both are quality hands catchers.

Gallup
6-1
205
4.45 forty
36 vert

Ridley
6-0
189
4.43 forty
31 vert

I really think Dallas missed out on an opportunity to add another solid linebacker to the mix. Okorowonko was there really late. He would have been a nice addition to the linebacking corps and would have been a situational edge rusher.

We have Lee (awesome but old and injury prone)
Smith (young, ascending, but slow to diagnose and still recovering from his knee)
Wilson (marginal talent--couldn't beat out a gimp)
LVE (great upside but very raw)

We needed one more linebacker who could play. OBO carried greater value than Hitchens in my opinion. He should have been snagged in the 4th round with one of those 3 picks.
