Starter: Dak Prescott
Contenders: Cooper Rush, Mike White

The Cowboys appear to be completely satisfied with their quarterback depth for now, having not made any move to add one in free agency, the draft or after the draft. Dak Prescott is likely to receive a franchise QB deal this summer and be locked in as the starter for years to come. The risk with that is that Prescott has been up (2016, last half of 2018) and down (2017, first half of 2018) over his three years as starter. The type of money that the team will have to pay makes it imperative that extending him is the right decision. Dallas does not have to make that decision this year, but the front office seems to want to, showing that it believes Prescott is a franchise type, and the cost won't get any cheaper unless he has a bad year.

With Prescott entrenched, the only real question is who will be the primary backup? Cooper Rush had an excellent preseason his rookie year, showing great awareness and understanding of how to play the game. He did not fare near as well in his second preseason, which made his lack of great arm strength stand out more. Mike White showed he had a cannon for an arm and can put the ball in tight spaces. He started off his rookie preseason a little shaky, but adjusted as it wore on, showing better awareness and understanding, to look like he could supplant Rush as the No. 2 and maybe even eventually develop into a starter in the league.

ROSTER PREDICTION If White builds on what he was showing, I think we will carry just two quarterbacks (Prescott and White) to save a roster space for another position. I liked the Rush of 2017, but he's likely to always be limited to a backup role despite his savvy because he doesn't have the arm talent necessary to consistently make all the throws.

I think we almost have to. We have drafted a good number of depth players. Every roster spot will be crucial and not all of them can be sneaked onto the practice squad. Personally, I believe we could cut Cooper Rush tomorrow and he won't be highly sought after.

It got caught up in the wash, but I did find it interesting that Ian Rapoport suggested we were interested in Clayton Thorson during the draft. That would have been a surprising pick.

I'm excited to see White's progress in camp.
I wouldn't say I am excited as he did not look so hot last preseason.

Then again in his defense, we did perhaps trot out the worst scrub offensive linemen possible to protect him.

He needs a serious shot. Start him a game and have the whole thing. I don't think we need to see much from Rush. He has been proven mediocre.

I didn't think we'd draft one, but wasn't necessarily opposed to it after we traded down and got more picks. I think at this point, though, just bringing in UDFAs to possibly develop on the practice squad would be the best path. Let White and Rush duke it out. If neither builds on what they've previously showed, then start looking for a veteran who will be cut or can be acquired for a late pick.

Brandon Weeden had a cannon for an arm. Didn't want him.

There are definitely advantages to having a strong arm, but it still comes down to knowing where and when to go with the football and getting it there.
