I said I'd be here Monday afternoon, and it's Monday afternoon. I have already proved a few posters wrong, those who doubted I'd come back. And here I am.
First, good win by the Cowboys. Truly deserving of the W.
Second, we (the Bucs) played undisciplined football, and that cost us the game. No team can play as idiotic as we did and expect to win. Folks talk about how winning teams need to play fundamental football (tackling, blocking, blitzing, routes, etc)
Third, our offense could get nothing of substance going, especially in the red zone. Good work by Wade Phillips firing up the Cowboy defense. They looked listless as a group the previous 2 weeks, and really came to play yesterday. The LB's were really moving around, and masking their blitzes better than they have in a while. And we could not run the ball to save our lives. Stopping Graham's tough running was a major key to the W. Garcia, he had happy feet all damn day, and was jittery in the pocket. He made some mistakes because of that, all forced by the Cowboys pass rush. Disgusting performance.
Fourth, outside of the penalties, we kept the Cowboy offense in check. We shot ourselves in the foot by commiting 4 penalties on the drive just before the half to keep the Cowboys offense moving when it should have punted. That turned out to be the winning points in the game. Aqib Talib did very well covering Owens, and Sabby Piscitelli played well in place of Jermaine Phillips. Gaines Adams continues to show he was worth his #4 overall selection.
Finally, as in most cases, the winner of the turnover battle usually come out on top. As was the case yesterday. Dallas was +1 against the Bucs. A trademark of our defense is it's ability to force turnovers. We had 0 on Sunday. It didn't directly result in points, but we lost 4 minutes on the clock, any momentum we wanted to build on after the half, and field position that eventually led to a Cowboy FG. Costly in the end.
That game officially concluded our second quarter of the season, and we finished it at 2-2 and a 5-3 record overall. We enter the third quarter of the year with a game at Kansas City, poised to make a run at the playoffs in the NFC and we have to come out and play strong on the road. We're unbeaten at home, but struggle away from South Florida. Gotta correct that for the playoffs.
And be ready for a rematch against the Cowboys in January.
P.S. - No apology for the "trash-talking" all week from me. I'm still confident in my team, and it's abilities the rest of the year. Again, congrats on the win.
