Gotta be happy with a road win to open the season. Tampa did have 9 wins last yr and there are no gimmee's. 1-0 beats the heck out of 0-1 going into a matchup with NYG.

1) All offseason and preseason we heard constant bemoaning and crying about our WR corp. "They cant get open!!!"..."We wont make any big plays!!!"..."We have no goto WR!!!!". Barring injuries, any concern over this should be put to bed. That was an impressive performance by our WR's and TE's. Super games by the top 3 WR's, and Austin could have easily had another 50-60 yd TD had Romo not overthrew him. TO was a great individual player, but he was a hinderance to the offense being better overall.

2) Romo missed a few he normally hits in his sleep, and still put up monster numbers. Thats gotta be scary for defensive coordinators on our schedule.

3) Liked the game JG called. He didnt give up on the run (25 runs, 28 pass plays) and the varied formations and motion clearly caused problems for the Tampa LB's and DB's.

4) OL looked pretty solid, run blocking could have been a little better, but like some others noted I think Tampa's priority was stopping our run game, and thinking they could take their chances with our skills guys not coming through in the passing game.

5) Buehler is as good as advertised on kickoffs...he absolutely boomed the ball. Seeing Nick Folk just drill a 51 yarder though was definitely a positive. That prob would have been good from 58-60. And it was dead center. Great job in kick and punt coverage too. DeCamillis was a GREAT hire.

6) I hate it, but it appears our team is just snakebit with guys getting hurt, dinged or really injured. 4 key guys all got dinged good today.

7) Officiating, as many have covered was pathetic.

8) Defense was pathetic, and Wade should be (but probably isnt) ashamed. I'll bet anybody that wants some of it that Tampa doesnt have another game this yr with 26 first downs and 450 yds. The team looked slow and lethargic to me on defense. The tackling was just as bad as what we saw at the end of last yr, and the coverage schemes were awful. Other than Spencer and maybe Sensabaugh, I dont think hardly anyone on defense could honestly say they had a decent game. Olshansky and Brooking were hand-picked Wade guys, and niether did anything of note today. I think Ware's play was definitely affected some by the opening series collision, I really believe he played with a concussion. Overall though this was one of the lousiest defensive efforts I've seen in some time, as Tampa could have EASILY had another 6-8 first downs (or more) and probably another 100 yds or so of offense. No excuse for the continued soft zones he played today, especially when your LB's and safeties never jump or cut off a route, or play the ball in the air.

9) Penalties were down, which was great. Still havent figured out what Adams did to draw a 15 yarder though.

10) When Deon Anderson is on the field on offense, its like we're playing with 10 guys. Likewise, having Hamlin at FS is the same as having 10 guys on defense. Niether do anything. Hamlins the worst contract we've ever given to a player IMO.

11) Amazingly, we have a game where we score 34 pts, run up 462 yds, averaged about 9 yds or so a play, score 3 long TDS and people in CZ STILL manage to complain about Garrett with something. Look folks, EVERY player cant get the ball on EVERY play. There will be some weeks when Felix Jones gets more touches. But to complain about his play totals when we had the ball so little in the 2nd half is just plain stupid. The beauty of the offense this yr is that barring injuries, there isnt ONE guy a defense can really key on to take away and slow the offense.

12) Hopefully we see improvement on defense next week. NYG is a far better team than Tampa on both sides of the ball. I doubt we get the number of big plays/long tds we got this week.

My only quibble dbair with everything you said.

I think Barber and Choice got the ball a few more times than they should have, and that if they were going to run a screen on 3rd and 20 it should have been to Felix, not Tashard.

Otherwise I totally think this was the best offensive game Garrett has planned/called since 2007, but from a complete nitpick standpoint I still think they need to get Felix the ball in space more. They didn't do that today at all (even though the results were just fine).

Well Bradie James did say that TB checked into runs when the blitz was coming and looking at the replays we did get beat on blitz. It seemed to me that WP got a little too exotic and when we came out in the second half and went to more basic D looks we shut the run down. Next week should be a good measure for the D.

the whole time Moose was saying he thought Ware had a stinger....blah blah
blah I was saying it looked like Ware got knocked out, and thats why his arm
was limp. Then on the sidelines the trainers weren't looking at his body, they
were talking to him to see if he knew what day it was.

at least thats what i thought it was, glad somebody else thinks concussion too.

Can't agree with Brooking. He was 2nd in tackles today and seemed to be covering the field well.

I don't think I heard Igor or Ratliffs name at all and they seemed invisible.

I thought the offense was excellent. we ran the ball well and threw very well while getting some big plays that some were saying we wouldn't get without you know who. but the biggest reason i'm happy with the offense is we showed very little of the playbook. no screens to Felix, heck Romo didn't even dump the ball off once to our backs if i recall correctly. we also ran very basic passing plays(slants,go's etc.). I would've liked to see us run more but I think/hope Garrett is saving that for when it's necessary like next Sunday and what not.

Special teams was also very good. Folk was great again making 51 yard fgs look so easy. McBriar was solid and our coverage units looked good also. Beuhler had I think 3 touchbacks was great to see.

Defense was terrible and I don't even want to talk about it.

I'm happy we had no major injuries though I was so scared as soon as i saw Ware bounce of k2. glad to see he was ok. Sensy said he'll play next week and i'm sure Romo's ankle and mike Jenkins jewels will be fine. so a few bumps and bruises but we made it out fine.

glad we got the win and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

Buehler's leg is scary.

His pre-kick leg jitters give me the impression that he is just as likely to rip someone's head off as he is to kick the ball.

I want to see him put one through the uprights.

I agree with pretty much everything, the defense needs to get corrected or they'll be lit up going forward.

There is no excuse for sloppy tackling and a lack of concentration in the first game of the season and this defense looked like they were suffering from both.

Thats what Wade tried to say too, but they still gave up over 70 yds rushing in the 2nd half, so they didnt exactly "shut it down". What took them out of it was us kinda breaking the game open there early in the 4th qtr.

They gotta do better, the Giants are a far better offensive team than Tampa is.

I didn't get to see the game so I appreciate the recaps. Thanks David.

Just from looking at the stats though, it is apparent that our defense is still the weak link on this team. I do have confidence that we will improve but we need to improve a LOT if we want to win a championship. Got to be able to shut down the run.

I love how we had scores on big plays despite Owens not being around! Maybe now all the mediots will shut their pie-holes about it and move on to something more important.

We are 1-0 heading into a division game next week. Gotta love it!

First off, no doubt our defense definately did struggle, but Tampa Bay's offense (if Leftwich can stay healthy and play like he did against us, will be better than people give them credit for). They said during the game that this is the first time in a long time that Leftwich has been healthy), and he looked like a different QB than we are used to seeing. Yes, he still will throw the occasional pass to high, but lets also not forget, that he did throw for close to 3,000 yards each of his first two years in the league, with only Jimmy Smith at WR, and a run based offense.

My thoughts on the game I think Romo and the Cowboys offense started off slow but seemed to get in a groove. With Tampa playing a lot of 8 in the box it keep the Cowboys running game in check but clearly opened up passes down the field. Romo seemed to be off early on but got it together to have one of his better days.

Defense: Run defense stunk for most of the day this group can and needs to do better than that. As for pass rush I give a lot of credit to Leftwich as he stood in there and took some big hit as he was releaseing the ball, QB's with a bit less guts would have been looking to avoid the hit by moving Leftwich delivered and took the hits.

Special teams: Great day the block FG was big for Dallas and the rookie kicker did exactly what he was brought here to do. Kudos also to Folk on the 51 yarder

Last but not least Dallas did a much better job of cutting down on penalties with only 4 on the day. No false starts and no holding calls.

Good recap David.

My fear is that the defense will be the bane of the team as it has been in so many recent years in the past.

I'm still a little suprised at the big holes the Bucs were able create.

Why wouldnt Wade be ashamed?

Is it his demeanor? His Country bumkin style?

I think any coach....giving up that many yards would be ashamed....especially a coach like Wade that prides himself on having a solid defense.

you can bet that Wade is looking at what went wrong......was it the lack of prep? gamefilm? As Bradie James mentioned? I mean we witnessed last year how the wild cat caused problems when it first came out. Now that there is more film about it.....its safe to say..it will be less effective.

Lets see how this defense plays against the Giants........that should give us a pretty good barometer on how this defense will be...

Wade post game he said we have to do better than we did on defense. Wade is a long time DC who has put together some very good defensive clubs he will get this defense back on track.

I think it's pretty safe to say that we struggled on both sides of the ball in the first half. The offense couldn't keep drives going and the defense had a difficult time controlling the Buc's offense.

But, whatever was said at halftime worked. IMO, that's the measure of a team improving ... can you go in at halftime, make adjustments and execute in the 2nd half? We did that.
