Well, the post season has arrived and contrary to popular belief the Cowboys are in the Post Season and not after "backing in."

This was the Cowboys 17th NFC East Crown. It is their 21st Division crown overall.

For the 30th time in 50 years the Dallas Cowboys are in the Post Season hunt for a trophy.

This is the 11th time they begin their Post Season drive in the "Wildcard' round of the playoffs. They are 4-6 in the Wildcard round, 3-2 @ home in that round of the playoffs. In the 1982 season the Wildcard round was referred to as Round 1. This was due to the NFL strike that erased 7 games during the season. Divisions were done away and the NFL had a tournament to determine who would play for the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys and Eagles have met 3 previous times in the Post Season. The home team has won every game in the Post Season between the 2 teams. Philadelphia won the first time they met in the Post Season when they met in the 1980 NFC Championship game. Dallas won Divisional (2nd round) playoff games in the 1992 and 1995 Post Seasons. The winner of Post Season games between the Cowboys and Eagles have gone on the play for the Super Bowl each previous time the teams have met. Dallas won both of theirs. I can't remember if Philly won the 1980 Super Bowl or not.

:trophy:

If the Cowboys win in the Wildcard round, they will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. The Cowboys and Vikings have met 6 times in the Post Season in previous years. The Cowboys lead the all time Post Season series with the Vikings 4-2. They are 2-1 in Dallas and at Minnesota.

If the Eagles win in Wildcard round, they will travel to New Orleans to face the Saints. They met earlier this year in Week 2. The game was in Philadelphia, the Saints came out on top 48-22. The Eagles lead the all time regular season series against the Saints 16-11. Despite a very tiny 2-6 Post Season History, the Saints and Eagles have actually met twice in the Post Season. They are 1-1 against each other in Post Season play. Both games were played in New Orleans. In 1992 the Eagles won 36-20. In 2006 the Saints won 27-24.

The 2nd round of the Playoffs are called the Divisional Round. Dallas has played in 22 Divisional round Playoff games. Their record in that round is 15-7. They are 11-4 at home, 4-3 on the road.

Enjoy the Post Season Cowboys fans. You deserve it. I mean that.

I read today that the teams who won the first game of a season ending/playoff starting double header were 5-8 the following week. That number didn't have details re: the record where the venue didn't change, and no data regarding how many of those games the better team sandbagged the season-ending game in order to save the team and the gameplan for the playoffs.
