In this scenario Donald is off the board but Barr is still available. The Cowboys stay put at 16 and select Barr.
In my other mock which I posted yesterday I had the Cowboys trading all over the place but in this one I have them staying put at every single pick.
Round 1 (16): Anthony Barr (OLB/DE, UCLA) - Is a pretty raw speed rusher at this point but there is no coach I would rather have him with than Rod Marinelli.. He steps in as the Cowboys starting RDE on day 1.
Round 2 (47): LaMarcus Joyner (CB/S, Florida St.) - Joyner projects mainly as a slot CB which may not seem like a need but he goes far beyond that. Joyner has played safety most of his career and can be used in a variety of ways. Joyner would be a great piece who could fill in and potentially start at almost every spot in the secondary.
Round 3 (78): Martavis Bryant (WR, Clemson) - Finally the Cowboys get a true deep threat at WR..He was in the doghouse a lot at Clemson but when you watch his tape you wonder how he is not a 1st round pick..Bryant has good hands and body control to go along with a 6'4 frame with speed to burn.
Round 4 (119): Telvin Smith (OLB, Florida St.) - Not sure how interested the Cowboys are in Smith but he is sort of a poor mans Ryan Shazier who the Cowboys used a visit on so I see the fit here. Smith plays with a ton of passion and projects well as a weakside linebacker in the 4-3 which the Cowboys could see themselves in need of if they plan on moving Bruce Carter to SAM.
Round 5 (158): Trai Turner (OG, LSU): It has been reported that the Cowboys are very interested in Turner who is a RS Sophmore with a ton of upside. Turner steps in immediately as the backup at both guard spots and could potentially compete for a starting spot.
Round 7: Jonathan Dowling (FS, Western Kentucky) - Dowling is a true free safety whose talent in my opinion is much better than a late round pick but due to a lot of character concerns and his slim frame he could be sitting there in the 7th for the Cowboys and is worth a shot.
Round 7: Ken Bishop (DT, Northern Illinois)
Round 7: Chris Whaley (DT, Texas)
Round 7: Kerry Hyder (DT, Texas Tech)
Round 7: Ik Enemkpali (DE, Louisiana Tech)
Round 7: Brandon Dixon (CB, Northwest Missouri St.)
(I rounded off the draft with 5 guys who the cowboys have expressed interest in who could potentially make the team as defensive depth which the Cowboys are in dire need of.)
