I see everyone is already posting their mocks on what they would like the Cowboys to do. Just for fun post a mock that could realistically happen with a few players dropping. Nothing crazy either like Clowney as our 1st round pick, try to make it semi reasonable.

Round 1 Clinton Dix FS 6'1 208 lbs I think he will most likely be gone to St. Louis, but he could realistically be here when Dallas picks. He is the best FS in the draft and would solidify the weak secondary. We would no longer have to see Heath looking like a deer staring at headlights on national TV. I also expect Matt Johnson to do another year long impression of Peter Griffin grabbing his shin.

Round 2 Kelcy Quarles DT 6'3 298 lbs I still think he sneaks into the low 1st round, but most draft websites have him as a 2nd round pick. I think he fits the scheme much better than Tuitt and Hageman. He is a very fast DT and will explode at the combine. He is exactly the type of fast twitch athlete the Dline needs in the middle without sacrificing size.

Round 3 Kareem Martin DE 6'5 265 lbs Has the skill set of a 1st rounder and got 11 sacks this last college season. Not sure why he is rated so low as he compares very favorably to 1st rounders Kony Ealy and Trent Murphy. He didn't produce till his senior year so that could be why he is rated so low. He is very tall, very lean, very strong, and very fast. He would really produce in this style of defense at the weakside defensive end.

Round 4 Caraun Reid DT 6'2 305 lbs This guy is very big, very strong, and extremely fast. He has commanded double teams at Princeton all year long. He would be slightly undersized as the 1 tech, but he could rotate with Hayden to keep them both fresh. This guy compares very favorably to Quarles athletically but is a lot stronger. This is the type of Dlineman that Maranelli prefers as the 1 tech. This was evident when Tampa Bay drafted Booger McFarland to play NT despite weighing 299 lbs.

Round 5 Max Bullough ILB 6'3 245 lbs This guy is very football smart and makes all the calls on the defense. He was recently suspended so there are character concerns, but the dude can play some football. A decent athlete like Sean Lee but has extreme football intelligence. Not very smart off the field though.

Round 6 Trey Millard FB 6'2 253 lbs The guys is a very versatile FB with some pop as a lead blocker. I usually don't like taking injured players even with low picks but this is the best FB you can get in the 6th round.

Round 7 Ryan Groy G 6-5 320 lbs. Like all Wisconsin lineman he is NFL ready. He isn't the best athlete but is very smart. Will make a very good backup in case something happens to Leary's knee. He has also played a little LT so that is a plus on game day.

Round 7 Russell Bodine C 6'3 310 lbs. Very big for a center and has played some guard as well. Can you think of how bad it would be to see Costa starting at center if Frederick gets hurt? Frederick has proven very durable though and Bodine has experience at guard. He will make excellent depth and can be used on game day to fill in as a C/G.

If everything falls into place? As in a lot of luck?

1st round- Louis Nix
2nd Round- Aaron Donald
3rd Round- 1 of the top guards falls. I'll say David Yankey

The rest is pretty difficult to predict, but I would most likely go best available S or LB in the 4th. Craig Loston in the 4th would be a pretty good value for safety or Denzel Perryman as a backup/insurance option to Sean Lee would be nice.

I would need some new shorts if Dallas was able to pull off something like this. Kinda surprised not many others have posted.

Great work and explanation. If Ha Ha is seen as an Earl Thomas type FS and he falls we should go bpa. I don't think that'll happen. DT/DE for first pick. Love picks 2 and 3. Will have to research the rest.

1st- Khalil Mack OLB/DE
2nd-Gabe Jackson OG
3rd- Aaron Donald DT
4th- Dion Bailey S/LB
5th- Kach Kerr DT Delaware
7th- Dontae Johnson CB/FS NC State
7th- Jeff Mathews QB Cornell
7th - Dri Archer RB/WR/KR Kent State

Note: the lack of DE is because I'm accounting on throwing bank at Greg Hardy, retaining George Selvie, and having Caesar Rayford with another year of experience. (Jones, Adrian Hamilton, DE Ravens and David King, DT FA too)

Oh, Ware out (sad), Hatcher out (sad), Austin out, Sims out

Sowwyy...

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10227410/greg-hardy-tag-ok-keeps-carolina-panthers

""I would love a franchise [tag], man,'' Hardy said Wednesday. "Add another year on my career. Get to play football a little bit longer without a contract. Another year to be in Carolina just to get them a chance to get their fiscal responsibilities in order so we can be here forever, like Steve [Smith] and a lot of other guys.""

"Hardy has made it clear he wants to remain in Carolina and is willing to take less (within reason) from the Panthers than what other teams might offer..."

Things can change in a few months. Dumervil was supposed to be a Bronco this year

If it went perfectly:

Cut Ware, Austin
Let Hatch, Spencer walk
Restructure Romo, Carr and whoever else makes sense
Trade Carter to NYJ or N.O for fifth rd pick.

Sign Linval Joseph, Henry Melton and Robert Ayers on defense.....I know Ayers isn't the most exciting option but it's realistic and the guy is servicable.
Sign Ben Tate on offense

Draft:

Trade down to mid twenties...pick up third and sixth

1. Trent Murphy., DE-love everything about this kid and his versatility is a plus.

2. Aaron Donald, DT-I'm hoping he doesn't do anything super human at the combine or show better than expected measurables...otherwise he's going late round one.

3.Brett Smith, QB-This is where my draft really becomes a fantasy as I doubt Smith lasts this long. However it is in the realm of possibilty if some team falls in love with a McCarron, Foles or Mettenberger.

3.Bryan Stork, C/G-Love his versatility and strength in pass protection. Will play guard in Dallas and provide insurance in case Frederick goes down.

4.Caraun Reid, DT-I don't want to hear about lack of talent in the middle of the defensive line any longer.

5.Donte Moncrief, WR-so much talent at WR in this draft means a few will drop and this guy will be hard to pass up in the fifth.

5.Dontae Johnson, CB/S-Hybrid player with great size and upside.

6.Andrew Jackson, MLB-Very physical linebacker who plays with a chip on his shoulder

6.AJ Tarpley, OLB--Versatile guy who was productive in college

7.Larry Webster, DE--Tiny school, big upside. Still a few years from really contributing but has talent.

I don't get why anyone would want Clinton Dix. He is a big hitter who fills hard against the run but can't cover for squat. We already have two guys like that starting (Church, Wilcox).
