Post Your Worst Past Mock Draft

I thought it would be interesting to show everyone's worst mock draft. This is mine, coming right after last season's miserable loss to Seattle. Obviously it changed drastically from January to April, but funny none the less. I have gone back and looked at others' mock drafts and they look just as silly for the most part. So, what's your worst?

dallasfaniac said:
With the season at a close (for all intents and purposes) and everyone's mock drafts coming out I figured I would tip my hand.

I have tried to stick to my value board which admittedly needs to be updated due to juniors declaring/staying, injuries, etc. Each round has a list of players I considered and my actual draft at the bottom. These are players I think would fit the Cowboys and are assumed to be available when we would pick (As I say, my board needs updating).

I must say there are plenty of players that I would love to list but I don't think are feasable. For instance, I would love Blalock but think our first is too high and our second is too low.

Therefore, on to the players.

1)
Alan Branch DT
Gaines Adams DE/OLB
Quentin Moses DE/OLB
Marcus McCauley CB

2)
Jarvin Moss DE/OLB
Manuel Ramirez OG
Aaron Ross CB
Dwayne Bowe WR

3)
Brian Leonard FB
Kareem Brown DT
Doug Free OT
David Harris ILB

4)
Joel Filani WR
Jonathan Wade CB
Tim Duckworth OG
Anthony Waters ILB

5)
Stewart Bradley DE/OLB/ILB
Rhema McKnight WR
Tyler Palko QB
John Talley CB

7)
Mansfield Wrotto OG
Germaine Race RB
Ben Patrick TE
Chris Davis WR
C.J. Ah You DE
Dustin Fry OG/C
George Batiste OG

The Draft:
1) Quentin Moses OLB - Really want Gaines Adams....Quentin had a slump last year playing DE but projects better at OLB.
2) Aaron Ross CB - Sat behind some very good players until his senior year when he turned in 6 INTs. Might be a little high here, but he has the speed, size, skills to be a starting corner. Can he put it together?
3) Kareem Brown DT - Inconsistent, occasional starter until his senior year when he registered 8.5 sacks.
4) Joel Filani WR - Many are down on his 4.7 speed, but he has the production and nice size.
5) Stewart Bradley DE/ILB/OLB - Good at everything, not great at anything. Versatile player.
7A) Dustin Fry OG/C - Raw prospect with nice size/strength. Might be workout warrior.
7B) Ben Patrick TE - Transferred from Duke to Delaware to beat up on small schools. More of a nasty blocking TE...
7C) Brian Smith OLB - Has fractured both hips but is a rush linebacker at heart. If he can get past them, who knows.

Hmmmm, for some reason I have gone very strong on defense.....I am not pleased with who I have chosen because each person has major questions surrounding them, so I will call this version 1 with another release once I have updated my value board. This is a very weak draft at some positions which hurts.

Well, if no one wants to post their own, perhaps I will take the initiative and post for them. :D

I will try to post last years mock for everyone that posts one this year. I think it's interesting how many people, myself included, will crow that we liked that 1 player when they do well in the NFL, but will fail to mention the other 12 studs we liked that either fail to make a roster or fail to make a contribution.

So, since Sasquatch has posted his 2008 v1.0 Mock draft this year, I will post his 2007 v1.0 Mock draft from last year. Sorry Sasquatch, had to start somewhere.

After sifting through a number of members' drafts and several mock draft sites, I submit this year's alternative draft scenario. I believe we will move down a few spots in the first and possibly up in the second and third. Observations on players and their projected round would be greatly appreciated.

1. Justin Blalock, OG, Texas -- Inconsistent play on the part of the Offensive line was the downfall of the Parcell's era in my opinion. How many drives were killed due to our inability to convert on 3rd and 4th and short? Blalock instantly improves our internal line and injects a much needed fiery disposition to the unit that has been absent since the departure of Erik Williams.

2. DeMarcus "Tank" Tyler, DT, NC State -- I am a firm believer in building a team from the inside out. Jason Ferguson has been a great addition to the club but we need someone competent to rotate in and eventually replace him. Tyler is stout and strong and could develop into the perfect NT for our system with coaching and experience.

3. Victor Abimiri, DE, Notre Dame -- He's got the size, the speed, and the athleticism to replace Greg Ellis and provide a good pass rusher opposite Demarcus Ware. I think Carp stays in the inside while James is phased out because he's too much of a liability in coverage. Abimiri won't start right away but certainly has the physical tools to be a very good player with proper coaching.

4. Johnny Lee Higgins, WR, UTEP -- Given the depth of our receiver corps I see no need to draft a WR until later rounds. Higgins gives us the quick and shifty playmaker that we currently lack. He can contribute right away on special teams and develop into a solid contributer in the future with a little strength training and seasoning. He's what we wish we were getting with Skyler Green.

5. CJ Gaddis, CB, Clemson -- Gaddis is the kind of corner that I like, fast, athletic, and not shy about supporting the run. He is an excellent athlete that projects at either CB or Safety that should only get better as he gains experience. He will be an immediate contributer on special teams and could develop into an outstanding corner in a few years.

I'm very much a disciple of Larry Lacewell, obviously. :D

Or rather Rich McKay since the Falcons took Blalock and Gaddis.

Obviously until year 3 we won't know what will happen with most players. I've noticed that mock 1 is almost always the worst because you don't know which players are declaring, which ones are rising/falling, how the final draft order falls, the outcome of free agency, etc.

I only chose that one of yours because it was rev 1, the others were much better obviously.

We'll see how much more interesting things get when more people post their mocks and we get to compare this year to last. I know in years past I had a mock draft where not a person lasted in the NFL longer than 2 years. That draft I picked based upon potential and not necessarily production. Definite reaches.

One of the players I was VERY high on as a sleeper was Mario Monds, who racked up 4 career tackles before being released by his 3rd team in 2006. Dude ate his way out of the NFL. Just thought I would give an example of a player I 'fell in love with' despite the news that kept surfacing.

This was my first mock for last year and probably my worst:

cowboysfan31 said:
1. Sidney Rice WR South Carolina- He's got everything you look for in a WR; size, speed, good hands, and body control. He has some character concerns so he will fall a little bit, but if he enters the draft I don't see how we can pass him up with our aging WR corp.

2. Kyle Young OC Fresno St.- Young has the size to match up against today's bigger NT's, but he's got the intelligence to recognize the blitz and calls the plays up front. His addition will allow Gurode to move back to G where I feel he's better suited anyway. This will also move Kozier into a backup role where I feel he is a better fit, similiar to what Lehr was able to do for us.

3. Justin Harrell DT Tennessee- Showed flashes of talent and was considered a top prospect before an early-season injury. He's got good size and strength, he holds up well at the point of attack against the run and adds a decent yet inconsistent pass rush. He will be a good fit whether we go with the 3-4 or 4-3.

4. Mason Crosby K Colorado- Our kicking game has been inconsistent for years. Crosby offers a very strong, accurate leg and the consistency we've been missing.

5. Sabby Piscitelli DB Oregon St.- Good size and has a knack for being around the ball. Good in coverage, but run support could use some work. Speed is also questionable.

6. (from NYJ) Chase Johnson OT Wyoming- A mountain of a man with surprising athleticism as well. Had started 35 consecutive games at LT entering this season.

7. Jared Zabransky QB Boise State- Good arm and mobility, but he has less than ideal size and is very inconsistent. Might be a PS candidate but he's got some upside.
7. (from NYJ) Tyler Ecker TE Michigan- Because it wouldn't be a BP draft if we didn't get atleast 1 TE.
7. (from NO) Martin Jackson LB/DE Alcorn St.- Started off at LB but transitioned to DE. He's got excellent size and speed, and he's been tearing up small-school competition.

It's funny how it turned out. Kyle Young goes undrafted but Sabby Piscitelli gets taken round 2. Kyle Young was another of those players I liked but ate himself out of a job leading up to the draft. I think he is now trying to get a job in the arena league.

So Bob Sacamano would have taken:

A WR in rd. 1 that had no catches because he never made it to a game.
A FS in rd. 2 that did manage to get in 10 tackles on the year.
A LB in rd. 3 that tallied 6 tackles.
A CB in rd. 4 who finished with 25 tackles and 2 passes defensed.
A TE in rd. 5 with no receptions; Gonzalez probably took them.
A DE/OLB in rd. 6 that was cut after preseason, didn't see any other time in his next team.
A QB in rd. 6 who is ugly as heck but actually made a roster.
A OT in rd. 7 that went undrafted, signed and released faster than I could type this sentence.
A WR in rd. 7 that caught 5 passes, but more importantly returned 30+ punts. Best pick of Bob's draft at this point.
A FB in rd. 7 that plays arena football, even though he should be on someone's roster.

So it's easy to see that the first few mocks of the offseason are rather pathetic but funny none the less. Bob, feel free to rip my draft apart, lol.

I see that 5mics has his draft in his sig, so I will post his first draft from last year. He's got a couple nice players there, but I don't know how soon into the offseason it was which makes a huge difference it seems.

1. Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida (6-1 200)
2. Tim Crowder, OLB, Texas (6-4 270)
3. Steve Smith, WR, USC (6-1 200)
4. Paul Soliai, NT, Utah (6-4 330)
5. Anthony Arline, CB, Baylor (6-2 200)
6a. Kasey Studdard, OC, Texas (6-3 305)
6b. C.J. Wilson, CB, Baylor (6-1 195)
6c. Justin Medlock, PK, UCLA (6-0 200)
7a. Matt Gutierrez, QB, Idaho St. (6-4 230)
7b. Tala Esera, OG, Hawaii (6-3 315)
7c. Ramonce Taylor, RB/WR, Texas (5-11 200)

Couldn't find locked&loaded v.1 from last year, but here is v.2

1)marshawn lynch-RB- a elusive back with good hands, that shakes of tackles.

2)Jared Gaither-OT- huge wall of a man, hes very raw but could be the anchor of our line for years to come. very athletic and didnt give up a sack in 500+ starts.

3) Victor Abiramiri-OLB- i doubt he will fall this far but i havent heard much mention of his name. i think this guy could slip past the scouts and right into our hands. he has a nose for the qb.

4)Travarous Bain-CB- he has alright size at 6' and pretty good speed. also could return punts or kicks.

5)Ryan Moore-WR- has all the physical tools, had a few altercations during the season.

6)Kasey steddard-OG- could play center or guard, a great run blocker and has a mean streak to go with it.

Should probably rename the thread "Last years mocks" so it doesn't look like I am downing everyone's mocks.

I think it may show a trend. For instance, locked&loaded's mock drew a comment about players not falling that low. Last year's mock met with the same comments.
