Recipient of the Bob Officer Award, presented to the player who excels in spite of physical adversity … 14-game starter at left tackle … Part of an offensive unit that ranked third in the nation in scoring, fifth in rushing and sixth in total offense … Tied for the second-best bench press (365 pounds) among offensive linemen during winter conditioning.

This would be the description of one Darrion Weems, currently on the Cowboys roster. I wonder if he's going to get a shot at legitimately competing for the RT spot, loser being the swing tackle.

He was hampered by a hamstring injury. He recorded 26 reps of 225 at his pro day and is bull-strong.

Started 14 games at LT for the Oregon Ducks in 2011. We all know how explosive their offense was.

Just some random roster scouring led me to look up some info on him.

Any of you have any input, watched him play, etc?

Honestly, I have never heard of the guy.

Did we draft him last year? What round?

Pretty sure he was signed to take Costa's spot on the roster in December of last year. He went undrafted in the 2012 Draft and was signed by the Vikings as a UDFA.

If we go into this year with Parnell and Weems as our only options at RT I will be pissed beyond words. Might as well reserve a hospital room for Romo before the season even starts.

Definitely. This is the most boring time of the year, so I try to evaluate the bottom of the roster guys and find out what I can about them.

I watched him in 1 full game. He looked good at RT, but that offense makes evaluation a little difficult.

Don't know the player. I'm excited about Parnell but I'm not predicting his success. But he has to tools to play either side IMO. I'd love for another player to step up. So I haven't wigged out about RT....yet.

That weird Offense Oregon uses makes it hard to evaluate O linemen for what they can be in the NFL.

may be a player worth trying to develope but he and parnell are not going to be the other tackles by themselves. if free is cut we will sign a vet to be the swing guy or play rt

I remember looking at some of his play a few months ago and liking what I saw. I think all the tools are there to mold into an NFL swing Tackle. You can't size height, length and frame and he is a prototypical Tackle. He also has decent feet but needs to work on his core and upper body strength to compete at this level. He isn't an Arkin who gets walked back like he is on skates repeatedly but he needs to work on his anchor some.

I don't know that he's ready to step in this year but I do think he belongs on the roster and it doesn't look like we have brought in much competition for him so maybe Callahan likes him.
