Only a couple days away, I'm pretty more than happy with most our units except a couple unknowns. Other words, for the first time in many years, we're packing some solid starters AND depth. Other than that, we ready to roll............

Offense
Quarterback ....check
Runningback....check
Offensive line...check
Wide receiver...???
Tide end...........???

Defense
Defensive end..check
Defensive tackle..check
Linebacker......check
Cornerback......check
Safety..............check?

Special Team
Kicker/Field goal..check
Punter.............check
Kicker returner...check
Punt returner.....check?

SS and DT rotation are the big questions to me.

It's really only Kavon at SS, or we're thinking about forcing Heath into a position that is a bad fit for him.

And the DT rotation is grim, particularly in the first 4 games with Irving out. Collins as a starter. Fine. But the rest are Ward, Price, and Jones. We're counting on Ward to fill in as a starter for 4 games, and the other guys are UDFA nobodies. That's just sad.

That's some low hanging fruit for upgrades. Probably easy to upgrade at WR too, getting someone to go with Hurns for about the same price.

Maybe some guys surprise in training camp and resolve some of those.

Ward was drafted in the second round. Has good physical tools. I like the odds that Marinelli unlocks something in the player.

That is where Ward was drafted, but he never lived up to that draft status with NFL play.

I'm hopeful that Marinelli can bring out the upside in him. There's good reason to believe that's possible. But that's still a gamble, and not something I want to be betting on as a starter for first 4 games. A starter with even more nobodyish nobodies behind him.

I'm not sure how you checked the DT box but good otherwise.

I’m with you on the DT situation. IMO, it’s the weakest position on this team. I’m thinking we will pick up someone from late cuts or maybe even in a trade before season starts. Unless some dark horse really emerges in TC, this team’s DT situation is a problem.

The safety position is weak, but not as grim as DT. This may also be a position where we pick up someone in late August. I’m starting to thing the Earl T situation has some major downside with his age and contract situation so I’m thinking he won’t be here.

You lost me at defensive tackle...check

Weakest area on the entire squad save TE.

Cap casualties for DT, SS, maybe WR.

Funny, I've been warming up to Thomas. We're balancing out.

But I don't see it happening this year. One of the bonuses of getting him would have been his help to install what Richard wants in the secondary. Every day of training camp that he's not here is a frittering away of that bonus. And making it that much less likely that we take him this year.

Also, I don't see it this year because giving a premium pick for an older player who wants top dollar is a bad bad deal.

I swear you guys that are dying over Thomas will be sad pandas just like the people who thought Adrian Peterson was orchestrating his way out of Minnesota to get to Dallas.

You got the wrong fella. I'm warming to *maybe* getting him next year. That's a far cry from "dying over Thomas".
