We are open to trading, more inclined to trade down versus trading up.

Garrett says we want to be disciplined to drafting the BPA vs need.

Garrett says that we still have young guys that were hurt from last year that will help us this year.

Jerry, he talks in circles, never understand him. Ha, but anyways he said that OL is deep in this draft. We have not shared our position on Doug Free by design. ( I took as Free will be gone)

Stephen we need to focus on getting young players on the field, take our lumps and let them develop. Some situations need veterans but we have some young talent and need to get them on the field. (I took that as Matt Johnson, Wilbur, and Hannah more time)

Garrett wants to draft players that can play quickly as possible.

Press conf was cut short so they could resume their draft meeting.

I missed some of the beginning so is there anything I missed be free to add.

Jerry said he relies heavy on the coach's input for drafting but the scouts "rule the day".

Jerry said he expects us to stay in the 4-3 for a while and the lineman and safety position that we consider will be based on our new scheme and style of 4-3.

NICE! thanks for recap. had to wrap up lunch and get back into the office so i missed that on the radio. love this website.

Of course Garrett wants guys who can play quickly...he needs results this year. Now if that is the best for the team long term, I don't think so.

Jerry and Stephen both justifying Felix and Jenkins as solid contributors. Basically, they are ok with them as 1st round picks and were able to get production out of both for the past 4 years.

I didn't really see a need for that in the PC but guess they had to make themselves feel justified on their decisions at the time.

The way I see it they saw production, from Spears, Jenkins and Felix; were there better options, yes but it's over and they need to move on. You made your decision now use that experience to get better and move forward.

Every coach wants players that can come in and play right away, not just Garrett, me as a fan I want someone that can come in right now and win a spot. That is just the nature of the beast.

Some people may disagree with Jason on a lot of things but I can not see Jason not looking out for the best interest of the Cowboys.

Thanks for posting.

I do think Jerry's influence on draft day has declined some, and do strongly believe Garrett is a staunch BPA guy.

Also agree that the young guys need more PT; the sooner you learn whether you have a player (or not) the better. They waited too long on Harris, imo. I also wanted Crawford more in the mix earlier last year.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were surprised in a good way by Johnson, Wilber, Coale, Price, or some others.

As for them being ok with Felix' contribution as a 1st rounder, that's crazy. Especilly given how loaded that draft was in later rounds at the very same positon. That was a huge fail.

That is simply not true. If you have a guy that is stable in his job they can take risks on slower developing players. Coaches that have to win now need immediate results...which is fine, but you could miss out on players who may take time to develop.

Whatever they say before the draft is just posing anyway in my opinion. Don't think for a second that the scouts will overrule the guy writing the checks.

Whatever Jerry says during the pre-draft PC, take the opposite and that's what will actually happen.

:D

you always want plyers ready to play. that does'nt mean you don't take a guy like lee or carter but you can't take those chances with every pick and you sure don't at 18. at 18 you need a guy ready to play

I don't like the sound of this. It is code for, we will not address OL, until after the 3rd rd.

Agree about Jerry. I think he is just the tie breaker. I believe that any pick the Cowboys make, at least half of the involved parties wanted that player.

I also believe that Stephen and Garrett have convinced him that it is important to not give away information like I suspect that Jerry did in 2009 when his "Buddy" Mike Holmgren traded up ahead of the Cowboys and picked the Cowboys #1 target Max Unger.

If a ol isn't the bpa I don't have a problem not drafting one. Bpa is the best way to go.

Basically. Lol I don't agree with doing that at all. You have to score points in this league. Take an olineman at the latest round 2. I'm sure they go dl/safety/ol. Smh

I am going to go out on a limb, and say Jerry will completely trade out of round 1, and say, the talent isn't there.

Because they've had back to back 8-8 season that have left Jerry very frustrated, I really don't thik they'll take a redshirt player this year in any of the 1st three rounds.

I'm glad they took Lee and Carter, and goging forward see them paying off big-time. But the urgency is pretty high right now for immediate impact.

This.

All the proven marquis players are long in the tooth. Dallas needs impact players (starters) and this draft is said to have them well into the 4th round.

A great draft can put this team over the top but they have to select as many ready-now players as possible.

Crawford played 303 snaps last year roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of most games defensive snaps. And he was injured part of the year and played thru it.

That's too far down, imo.

But if he did, there are a couple of real possibilites:

A) Dallas trades 18 for Cincy's 37th and 53rd...that leaves

2-37
2-47
2-53
3-80
4-114
5-151
6-185

or

B) Dallas trades 18 for SF's 34th, 61st, and `128th....whcih leaves

2-34
2-47
2-61
3-80
4-114
4-128
5-151
6-185

You could put toegther a pretty good draft with all of those 2d and 3rd rounders....especially this year.

I'm advocing doing it, but depending on how the draft is going it may not be totally nuts.
