Pre-draft Press Conference Tuesday at 11:30 CST

It’s a ridiculously stupid stance. Picking up the phone doesn’t force you to overspend. You set your price target and if you can agree, get. If not, you move on. It’s a stupid stance and thinking that these idiots have a clue on how to run a successful football franchise on the field is even more stupid.
Agree. It's asinine to NOT make a call. It's smug too.

What exactly could change in the next 72 hours? Board isn’t finalized? My goodness.

Maybe it’s like the McCarty extension talks….they were so busy concentrating on winning those last few games (which has zero to do with the FO) that they hadn’t thought about it.
Board is finalized. Jerry and Stevie know this. Teams have known how the board is for some time.

You call asking for a team to trade up to take your pick. You lose value. They will not offer you as much as if they called you.

Yes, it is that simple.

In a subtle but still noticeable way in my eyes:
When Jerry allowed McClay to speak for the first time and McClay gave his input as to setting up the board and then...(drumroll)
"giving it over to the decision makers"

I thought this odd/strange to not include himself in that group but to imply that all he and his guys do is set up the board and then leave it up to everyone else as the picks people.

Anybody else get that impression?
As though he did not play an active role in the actual picks process.
Because that’s the way it really is. Jerry and Air Quotes do the PR. McClay does the actual work.

I would put cash down that neither Jones could name the top 10 people on their draft board. Neither could name half the depth chart for their own team.

I quit listening when Jerry said he likes being "totally homogenized."
That did it for me. I just heard far too much about far too little.
Must be the new saying of the week in NFL circles. He got it from someone else.

Nothing earth shattering, all the typical stuff.
However, we expected this.

Jerry did make the point, that the phone needs to ring, you do not call around asking for a trade, they must call you.
And he is correct. To the dismay of some fans that do not want to understand that.
Oh, come on man. You can't actually believe that the person making the call automatically gets the worse end of the deal. The idea that the team wouldn't initiate a call to see what is out there if they have even the slightest desire to trade is so beyond dumb that it's hard to imagine they actually said it out loud. Another example of the utter incompetence that rules the day in Dallas. The best way to bend a team over the table in a trade is to call them when they are on the clock and they are sweating because they don't want to make the pick or when their guy is out there and they are afraid he is about to be taken. You can always hang up if you don't like the response!!!

Oh,
I know all of that as well. But when fielding input as to what choice to make and all the voices in the room are sounding off, I thought McClays voice would be one of the stronger, more influential voices to Jerry's final say.

McClay implied ALL he did was set up the board and then "leave it to the decision makers."

I assumed McClay played a much more active role with his voice in that room regarding choice selection.

I know GodFather Jerry has final say.

remember, he is a Boys Front office loyalist to the bitter end

So what are the teams doing that call us asking for a trade then, other than calling around asking for a trade?

It's a teo way street, someone must make the call.

I did not say they get the worse end of the deal. Of course they can hang up. Try to understand logic and not let your hate rule your emotions of the FO.

Sometimes the call never comes. Try to understand that logic...

Imagine how much we would have gotten for Herschel Walker if we waited for Minnesota to call us...

They put it out there to several teams to entice a bidding war for Walker. Not quite the same as sitting there in the draft.

Phone calls work both ways.

Seriously Jazz, if I were an NFL GM, I would be calling Jerry daily with a “great trade idea”. Granpa Jones has to protected from being fleeced.
