Round 1: Timmy Jernigan | DT | FSU
I've played around with the idea of a few other guys here but my gut keeps bringing me back to Jernigan. It looks like a situation where need and value meet, and Jernigan to me feels like the perfect fit and an excellent building block as we retool this line. I think he can play either Tackle spot, but I think you start him off at the 3 and hopefully can become that Warren Sapp type player for us. Jernigan is only 21 and still has a TON of upside as he still gets sloppy with his technique, but he's so strong and athletic that he gets away with it in college and was able to dominate inside this past year. You let guys like Rod and Kiffin get their hands on him and he'll be a terror inside sooner rather than later.
Round 2: Ed Reynolds | S | Stanford
I know there are sexier names out there at Safety but I look at Reynolds game and just believe he'll turn out to be the best pro of the bunch. He brings smarts, ball skills and most importantly, stability to a position that has been a black hole for us. I love the way he fits into this scheme and with how well rounded he is it allows us to be interchangeable with he and Church. I think Wilcox has some upside to eventually push Church out in a couple years, but if you have the opportunity to sure up that major question mark at FS I think you have to pull the trigger.
Round 3: Lache Seastrunk | RB | Baylor
Some may not like the idea of taking a RB high here with Demarco coming off a Pro Bowl year but the reality is he's entering a contract year and has a well documented injury history. And when he's not in the line up there is a noticable drop off in production from the RB spot. I don't necessarily view this pick as a back up to Murray either, more of a complimentary player who should help keep Murray fresh and shoulder the load if necessary. Seastrunk is a baller.
Round 4: James Hurst | OT | UNC
This is the kind of bargain/ high upside player Jerry has targeted in the past. When healthy, Hurst was looking like a legit 2nd Round pick but after breaking his leg in the bowl game he's gonna slide some. We'll have to shelf him for a year but with Free playing adequately I think it's a perfect situation, by the time Hurst is ready to contribute to the team we could make a seamless transition from Doug Free.
Round 5: Denicos Allen | LB | Michigan State
Allen has been a guy I've admired from a far the past few seasons. He lacks the ideal measurables for most defenses in the NFL but in this scheme it's not as important. He's a plus athlete who was highly productive at MSU and with some question marks at LB he'll have an opportunity to compete for a job. Even if he never amounts to more than a depth guy, he's someone I see sticking and the kind of player I'd like to have more of on defense.
