The CB position is by far the most unsettled position on the team but one with a lot of potential upside. We just spent two high picks on the position and there are potentially five different players who could start. We could also see both draft picks starting by the end of the season.

The roster (assuming 53 players) at the position would probably have these 6 or 7 of these players at CB:

Awuzie
Anthony Brown
Maurice Canady
Trevon Diggs
CJ Goodwin
Jourdan Lewis
Reggie Robinson
Daryl Worley

IMO the starters are the end of the season will be different than the starters at the beginning. The safest bets with the most experience to start the season would be Awuzie and Worley. The most optimistic scenario would be Diggs and Robinson.

So predict the starters at beginning of the season – and at the end. Mine would be –

Start – Awuzie and Diggs
End – Diggs and Jourdan Lewis

Awuzie will start but unless he learns how to turn his head and swat the ball down then lewis and Diggs will end up being the starters by week 5

and Awuzie will be put on spot duty

I think you're 100% on the money in that cornerback is and will be in transition this year.

Start - Awuzie and Worley
End - Awuzie and Diggs

I think that Worley is keeping the seat warm for Diggs by season's end. At least I see that as the plan anyway. As for Awuzie? I think this new staff will realize what he can do and put him in better position than the prior coaches did and that will result in him starting all season.

If he can develop more consistency to his game, I think Lewis is the team's slot corner but Brown is the guy they've invested in long term.

start...Awuzie and Diggs...with Lewis as the slot.
end...Awuzie and Diggs...with Robinson seeing time as the slot.

Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis-start
Awuzie and Diggs-end..with of course Lewis playing nickle

Jay---are you at all ooncerned seeing less than top speed from Diggs?...that was the only reservation i had

Start- Awuzie, Worley and nickel Cb-Anthony Brown

finish- Diggs, Awuzie and nickel CB- Anthony Brown

Idk if we consider nickel CB’s “starters or not”. But I did want to mention that I think AB is our best nickel CB and that he will remain as so. I was happy they were able to re-sign him
For a reasonable deal. He is going to remain our nickel CB for the next few years even through the transition phase, when ideally guys like Diggs and Robinson win the “starting” roles next year.

I'm more bullish on Diggs but it may take him a while to really settle in, especially with the distancing going on. Jourdan Lewis is the big wildcar, he could star like you say. I think this position group is a huge key to the season.

I like the idea of moving Awuzie to Safety.

Unless Robinson can play there and be effective.

I can't see Chido's role changing at all. He's been playing boundary corner for 3 years and is our only proven option there - you're not going to take the only guy who's proven he can do the job and move him.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Diggs starting week 1, he was a two year starter at Alabama and the way Saban coaches his guys up is just incredible. Diggs should be ready to go.

Brown should be given every opportunity to keep manning the slot. People complain about his lack of plays, but like with Byron, lack of plays as a CB is a good thing. Lewis inarguably has better ball skills than Brown, but when he was given like a 6 week audition in the slot, he got smoked. In fairness, the entire defense around him just mailed it in, but it's gives me much more confidence in Brown to start week 1.

Lewis is your dime and next man up if Brown gets hurt, Worley is your reserve if either of the boundary corners get hurt.

no....when i look at corner i look to see if their angles/hips are correct and fluid, can they predict where the receiver is running

i would add turning your head and batting the ball down but that’s elementary I wasn’t even told that playing defensive back because it was already assumed

if they can do those two things then not having top end speed is no worry ....Josh Norman and Richard Sherman in their prime weren't the fastest

now if they dont have top end speed and they cant predict and their angles/hips are crap they may want to look into playing another position

Totally agree. Plus he was the guy that paid the price for the scheme/adjustment problems last year. The real issue with him IMO is he will be facing #1 WRs now that Byron Jones is gone, but they will probably play a lot more zone.

Good post. I think the days of entitlement are over in Dallas. Chido was bad last season. He has gotten worse every season. They’ll be in nickel most of the time so I see 3 starters...

Diggs, Lewis and Brown in the slot. I think that will be it most of the season.

Chido will be the 4th CB. A spot he has earned.

Lewis and diggs outside and Awuzie in the slot

Diggs, Worley and Awuzie with Worley and Awuzie rotating between slot and outside corner. Lewis to be starting by the end of the season.

He finally will have consistent solid safety behind him this year with the addition of HaHa. That should help as well

Brown is better than Lewis in the slot and it's not even close. However, if you're talking about outside corner then yes Lewis over Brown.
