Easy, big feller! Let's just hope he plays all 16 games at a reasonable level first...then we can break out the annointing oil...

;)

I tell you what, I was watching the boys game and then Carpenter just showed up like the last 4 weeks or so. I was like 'OMG, theres Carp AGAIN!!!!' over and over and over. I gotta say more then once during the last few weeks I had to say "Randy's gotta be smiling knowing Carps wearing his number". I am looking forward to seeing his continued growth as a linebacker and his tearing up the league as old #54 used to do.

I dont know about pro-bowl, you have stiff competition already and even on the boys teams hes not the best LB we have. Maybe 3rd best even. But I think hes gunna become a 'more then adequate starter for the next 10 years' type player. Hes got Pro-bowls in his future I think, but maybe not just next year. By his 3d year starting, then maybe.

I have it on good authority from several "experts" on this forum that in fact he is a bust.

Here is my prediction. Columbo re-signs and Leonard Davis makes the Pro-Bowl as a guard in 2007

Well if Romo can make it off of 5 good games , then Carpenter can surely make it on 1 game.

Making the pro bowl is not very important. Making plays and getting the job done is. There are a LOT of very good players in the NFL that will neve get a pro bowl spot- and many times should. And many who get it (deangelo Hall, etc) never should.

We should have drafted Merriman.

I guess asking them for more than a year to evaluate talent was just too much.....

I'd like to see what he brings to the table from the ILB position. I could see a ton of stops behind the LOS. I also see him helping out more on the sideline runs, than either James or Shanle couldn't do.

I agree that Carpenter definately began to show up and look like a 1st rounder at the end of the year. However, let's get the kid to play that way for 16 games, and we may be talking Pro Bowl.

Generally I hope he makes plenty of trips fully comped to Hawaii, but that's sort of what you expect of players you take in the 1st round.

Well it was funny reading Crazy Cowboy's tackling chart. It's week 8 (or whatever) and I still have more tackles than Bobby Carpenter. :laugh2:

Yeah, well, his boy Manny Lawson didn't exactly tear it up this past year either.

At least Carpenter came on nicely at the end of the season....

That was oddly funny coming from CC.

Lawson's low sack total (which is what most people reference when criticizing his rookie play) actually has a decent explanation. The 49ers were forced to play 4-3 and they had Lawson splitting time at OLB in the 4-3, a position he isn't exactly suited for and doesn't provide the oppotunity to rack up sacks rushing the QB. If they're able to go to the 3-4 fulltime I'm sure Lawson will certainly get a lot more opportunities to rush the QB.
