I created this thread to stimulate conversation about how you see this season shaking out. I'm not just talking about the team record or how far we go in the playoffs although that would be great too. Here are some thought provoking questions other than Dak v Romo.

1. Will the Cowboys do any sort of blockbuster trade?

2. How well will the defense hold up the rest of the way?

3. Does Jaylon play this year?

4. Will Gregory see the field this year and if so will he be an asset?

5. Will we bring in an off the street free agent that helps us at some point this season?

6. What happens when McFadden comes back?

7. Will RoMac ever play another down for us?

8. Will Romo contribute on the field at some point this year and if so how will he play?

9. Does Zeke break the rookie record?

10. Will The Beas continue his career year, even when Dez returns?

11. Will T. Will cost us another game?

12. Will we manufacture enough of a pass rush with who we have to be moderately successful rushing the passer?

13. Playoff seeding?

14. Anything else you want to throw out there???

No trade. Defense will get exposed eventually. If Dak beats Philly, Romo only plays if Dak gets hurt. Neither Gregory nor RoMac nor Smith make a significant contribution this year. If a FA is on the street, he probably isn't any good. Beasley's production only goes up with Dez on the field. Either T.Will or Butler will make a major game changing mistake at least one more time this season. No idea about McFadden. Don't care if Zeke breaks the record or not. We win the East and get a bye, but have to go to that new stadium in Minneapolis for the NFC Championship.

I will focus on number one...I say a deal before the trade deadline is a strong possibility. Perhaps the Free cap maneuver was a small step in paving the way (with other deal adjustments to follow). I think we shud be pouncing on this situation with a win now mentality BIG TIME. Get a pass rusher that helps to put us over the top. Not saying trade Romo BTW - that would be monumentally idiotic at this stage. But for sure use pick(s) and potentially "excess" spots on the roster (RB, TE, etc.) to target a pass rusher that struggling teams might be willing to move for youth or salary cap reasons. In that category I have been keen on Cameron Wake from Miami but I am sure we could consider options from Jets or Chicago or squads in a similar boat. While I don't think we do a repeat of a Charles Haley deal (nobody's really available rt now of that caliber), I think we can do something "Thomas Everett" like. In other words not necessarily getting someone all world, just someone that helps fortify a position and turn it into a real strength. Everyone refers to the Haley trade as being the thing that helped push that 90's defense to a championship level (I certainly don't dispute that fact), but the Everett trade was huge in transforming our secondary into a DOMINANT unit. Anyone that paid close attention to the Boys back then knows what I'm talking about. We can make a similar solid addition to this year's team prior to the deadline without mortgaging the future. His year's draft hall should give us the confidence to act now and be aggressive. Fingers crossed!

I just don't see any way Smith plays this season. If I'm wrong, I will gleefully admit it. It would be thrilling to see him on the field at the end of the regular season getting ready for the playoffs.

But I don't think I will be wrong.

I wasn't against the pick either. I think it was worth a shot for a talent like his.

According to who ? Just curious ... outside of speculation and tabloid like reports , who in the actual know has disclosed Jaylons actual current medical status as of right now ? I'm just curious as I have seen the CZ medical staff here share their opinions, I have seen speculative reports from people from the medical field who have no first hand knowledge of his current condition, the Jekyll / Hyde Joneses have released conflicting positive / negative opinions, I have seen Jaylons cryptic tweets (probably none even related to his current status ) but I have yet to read or see actual recent updates from anyone who is in the know about his current condition ..

5. Will we bring in an off the street free agent that helps us at some point this season? No, none will be needed

1. Will the Cowboys do any sort of blockbuster trade? NO

2. How well will the defense hold up the rest of the way? If No Major Injuries, about the same.

3. Does Jaylon play this year? No

4. Will Gregory see the field this year and if so will he be an asset? No

5. Will we bring in an off the street free agent that helps us at some point this season? NO

6. What happens when McFadden comes back? Rotates with Morris. Has best seat in the house.

7. Will RoMac ever play another down for us? NO

8. Will Romo contribute on the field at some point this year and if so how will he play? YES

9. Does Zeke break the rookie record? NO Only because the team will begin being frugal with his yards.

10. Will The Beas continue his career year, even when Dez returns? YES

11. Will T. Will cost us another game? NO

12. Will we manufacture enough of a pass rush with who we have to be moderately successful rushing the passer? NO, but won't matter

13. Playoff seeding? 2nd

14. Anything else you want to throw out there??? Looking at the schedule, there is a possibility the Cowboys are 10-1 heading into the Minnesota game. There is not a game left on this schedule that is not winnable. And factually I believe this team could be 13-3 at the end of the season with a loss to the Vikes and the random loss all teams suffer to an inferior team. Dallas has a bye and plays the highest wild card team at AT&T Stadium. Dallas has a rematch against the Vikes in the NFC Championship game, but loses. Dallas gets a stud DE in free agency, a WR, and drafts LB, OT, CB, DE, QB in the draft.

Dallas goes 14-2 and has the top seed in the NFC in 2017 and wins the Super Bowl. Repeats in 2018, and to the chagrin of the entire NFL fandom, is the first team to win three in a row. Zeke iand DAK are the SB co-MVP in 2017. Zeke wins the SB MVP in 2018, and Dak comes back and wins it in 2019.

Unfortunately Garrett is given an extension and this board becomes insufferable with the Garrett love.

All I've heard is that he still has to wear a brace for his drop foot because the nerve isn't firing.

For some reason the Cowboys medical staff won't say if the nerve is growing or not. I don't know why they would keep it some kind of secret unless there was no good news.

1. Will the Cowboys do any sort of blockbuster trade? No

2. How well will the defense hold up the rest of the way? They will fall off as injuries and lack of pass rush takes its toll. But they won't be as bad as last year

3. Does Jaylon play this year? No

4. Will Gregory see the field this year and if so will he be an asset? No and no

5. Will we bring in an off the street free agent that helps us at some point this season? No

6. What happens when McFadden comes back? Not much. He will get very few carries.

7. Will RoMac ever play another down for us? No

8. Will Romo contribute on the field at some point this year and if so how will he play? Yes he will play, but he is no longer the 2014 Romo. He will struggle when rushed, but when given time to throw he will be efficient.

9. Does Zeke break the rookie record? No. His carries will fall off

10. Will The Beas continue his career year, even when Dez returns? Yes

11. Will T. Will cost us another game? No

12. Will we manufacture enough of a pass rush with who we have to be moderately successful rushing the passer? No

13. Playoff seeding? 2 or 3

14. Anything else you want to throw out there?? This team is still a good defensive draft away from being a true Super Bowl contender. If Jaylon Smith comes back next year, he will be a huge help.

1. Will the Cowboys do any sort of blockbuster trade? No

2. How well will the defense hold up the rest of the way? They will be exposed in some games and ok in others

3. Does Jaylon play this year? not at all

4. Will Gregory see the field this year and if so will he be an asset? he will not see the field

5. Will we bring in an off the street free agent that helps us at some point this season? hmm, only if injury

6. What happens when McFadden comes back? he is inactive until the final 1/4 of the season

7. Will RoMac ever play another down for us? his NFL career is over

8. Will Romo contribute on the field at some point this year and if so how will he play? He will get some mop up duty and start 1 game

9. Does Zeke break the rookie record? no, but he will get within 150 yards of it

10. Will The Beas continue his career year, even when Dez returns? he will have his best year to date

11. Will T. Will cost us another game? No, but another wideout will fumble, killing a game winning drive

12. Will we manufacture enough of a pass rush with who we have to be moderately successful rushing the passer? no

13. Playoff seeding? 5th

14. Anything else you want to throw out there??Gavin Escobar will catch a game winning TD this year.

Could you imagine the headlines if he is randomly put on the roster within the next few weeks?

Jerry can.

You're probably right but I don't see why they would let the media know either way.
