Preliminary contract talks w/Spencer begin

I'm confused does this mean we are trying to sign him to stay or let him go in FA?

I think your second thought is right

Im guessing start by getting a feel on how much he's looking for.

There ya go, a better answer. IMO I don't think anything will come of it tho

Too many solid defensive ends in this draft. Let him walk or franchise him and trade his rights.

Preliminary means something like, "Here's what we're thinking. What are you thinking?"

I'm good with whichever way it goes as long as it doesnt effect other aquisitions (which it prob would).

Followed by "you're thinking WHAT!":D

not smart...let him walk...don't continue to pump money into this romo led loser of a roster

I am sure they are willing to keep him at the right price. I hope they don't want to pay a guy that is going to see the wrong side of 30 during his contract $10m AAV. Less than that and maybe they can get something done.

I remember Zimmer trying the one gap, stop the run on the way to the QB style and it failing miserably. That was because we had Greg Ellis and Peppi Zellner at the ends. Remember Mike Myers?

I don't want another Zellner. I want Spencer.

We need to keep Spencer, he and Ware will be great with their hand in the dirt. After listening to a interview with Larry Lacewell who is very close to JJ I get the feeling they definately want to keep Spencer and are gonna try very hard to do so.

Does Spencer fit Kiffin's scheme? That's my concern.

He is closer to 30 years of age as well as he might hurt Dallas from getting free agents from a cap situation.

Just my concerns.

ultimately Dallas will have to decide on keeping Romo or Spencer. If you lock in both...dallas has very little wiggle room for a roster that has fair amount of holes to fill. Lee & Carters contracts are on the horizon. Dallas needs another DT and maybe safety on defense. On offense they need maybe two FA offensive lineman. They also need another RB to go with Murray. More importantly Spencer has his best season on his contract year (big red flag) and is on record as saying he was mailing it in at times last year. Dallas better have exit strategy if they sign Spencer.

I'll just sit back and laugh at the excuses you come up with to explain his failures!
