The problem is having #85 be #2 or #3….I’m not sure there’s much difference right now. A team can double or bracket your #1. That’s a fact unless the OC schemes him to avoid that. That means the QB has to look to #2 or #3 to beat single coverage and make catches. I haven’t given up on Gallup, but the fact is he has never caught enough passes to be a #2. He was always the guy who made 2-3 catches a game, sometime 1-2 big plays. That’s pretty much the definition of a #3 or maybe even a number 4.Our main weapon can't be #85 I'm sorry
Lamb is clearly our #1. When a team takes him away or he’s covered, slips, whatever, who is our possession receiver who consistently moves the chains? We haven’t had that guy since Beasley was in his prime. Except for drops, Ceedee was that guy when Cooper was taken away. Say what you want about his poor play today, but every time Dak had decent protection, he was shifting his feet and eyes from one side of the field to the other and back again, desperate to find someone to throw the ball to. Tonight it seemed the Commanders were running our routes, glued to the receivers. Even Schultz and the RBs were never running free.
Next week, no matter what the game plan is, Moore has to be ready to disrupt the defense with crossing routes and picks, bunch formations, misdirection, etc. All these dig and comeback routes are too predictable unless mixed with other things.
