Prescott to Q. Williams: I'll get you to the playoffs but I need you to help us win it

it’s literally one of the more self aware things he’s said?
Agreed.

That said....it's also self-aware for me to say that if I was going to be in charge of giving someone brain surgery, that I would want an actual brain surgeon with me to do everything

Because...you know....I probably am not great at performing brain surgery.

Probably why I'm not employed as a brain surgeon

Perhaps Dak has become aware enough to realize he's never gonna become clutch in January and lead his team to playoff wins, like playoff winning QBs can. Yet....unlike my brain surgery career, he's still employed as the lead brain surgeon

35....here we come

Good thing we have a Pro Bowl QB and MVP runner up Dak Prescott back there. If the defense can jell, this year could be special.

The problem is that he isn't saying it to QW here. He is saying it to anyone and everyone through the media. At that point it isn't about any kind of leadership/team building. It is purely self-promotional. I would say that it completely lacks self awareness to put that out there like that. Serves no purpose at all and only creates the conditions for misinterpretation and drama.

The thought is good but the execution horrible. No need to tell that story to the media.

In a way this is a microcosm of Dak. Very good and very bad mixed together to get a mediocre end result.

Perfect. That's what I tell both Dak critics and Dak crusaders.

The pendulum swing is gigantic. I don't think the fans are polarizing....I think he is / can be. He earns both sides.

So Q. Williams in 7 years never been to the playoffs.
Dak has been there 7 times.
Coincidence?

2-5, that can be 5-5 or 6-5 this season.
It's happening, this is an omen. 7 seasons - 7 playoff games. Magic Number.
:thumbup::popcorn:
7 is a mystic number for sure!

This team's offense and defense desperately need to work together as one for the common good. Let's hope this situation comes to a point where the players are fully aware of that responsibility. In the event that realization comes to fruition, it's quite possible that miracles can, indeed, occur. Here's hoping the coaches make it a point to instill such logic into the minds of their players. That's extremely important. Pointing fingers in a lame attempt to avoid responsibility prevents possible unity. It needs to change.

Caution: tl:dr

Tweets do not always provide full context (or full quotations for that matter), so I am pasting Dak Prescott's full statement in his own words (video starts at 14:04 mark/statement ends at 15:11 mark | 67 seconds):

This is my point also. Starting quarterbacks and defensive tackles are important parts of the team, but they are only cogs of the whole machine.

In my opinion, Prescott could have instead said, "I'll help get you to the playoffs, but I'm going to need you to go help us win it." The inclusion of one word would have equalized the responsibilities of both men. It frames future outcomes properly. Hypothetical situations:

A) Dallas' offense and defense perform well throughout the regular season. Prescott and Williams play integral roles in securing the playoff berth. Williams steps up his game in the postseason, but Prescott does not. Dallas gets knocked out of the playoffs.

B) Ditto for offense and defense's regular-season performance. The same goes for each player's performance level. However, Williams does not step up his game, but Prescott does. Dallas gets ousted.

C) Check. Check. Both players have subpar performance. Dallas' playoffs implode.

The best outcome would be for Dallas to advance and win, regardless of how these two players perform. Yet, what conclusions can be drawn if the postseason short-circuits again, from what was said in the previous offseason? How about:

Scenario A - "Quinnen balled out. We lost anyway. Remember what Dak said in June? Fan Zone is gonna see even more Dak threads than usual."

Scenario B - "What the hell, Quinnen? You mean to tell me Dak played better than he ever had before in the postseason, but YOU sucked?"

Scenario C - "That's Dak being Dak again."

In truth, Scenario C might be unfair to Prescott, but whose fault is it for laying out the parameters of postseason success for the whole world to hear?

I have said it many times, going back before the last two starting franchise quarterbacks. Too many people in this franchise, from top to bottom, talk too much. That said, I do not roll my eyes nearly as hard at Prescott's comments AS I DID for the idiotic leading question that prompted him to say what he said.

I had zero problem with him asking the reporter to clarify the 'does it feel like 20 years since the last visit to the playoffs' nonsense. No one feels like it has been two decades for that. If you must be a jokey-joke interviewer, go find Jerry Jones. Ask him if he feels like it's been 60 YEARS since the franchise won a Super Bowl with him as its GM. It would still be a dumb leading question, but far less stupid by comparison.

Him saying “I’LL get you there” is a poor choice of words….im sure if he could say it again, he would have said “WE will get you there”. One thing I’ve not seen from Dak is arrogance, so I’ll give him a pass. I think his sentiment is positive and about how the cowboys have made the playoffs a few times….and can do it again…but need Q to really take the next step. Meh, not a big deal tbh.

Not all on Dak, but making the playoffs 5 times in 10 years is not the definition of "MOST"... "HALF" is more correct. Slightly above half if you take out the year he missed more than half of the games.
Sure

HE will?

That's the problem.

Whenever score isn't being kept, HE is a big, bad man. When play starts HE needs two #1 WR's, top 5 running game, 5 All Pro lineman (preferably with some HOFers), good TE group, top 5 defense, best kicker in the league & not to play very many good teams just to get to the playoffs and a first round exit.
I mean yall always blame HE, HIM so whats the difference now?

Categorically untrue. WE always recognize that it's a team game. But WE don't whitewash HIS performance to blame everyone else. If others wouldn't try to so hard whitewash, you wouldn't hear much from us on the subject.
Right. Not sure where and why these crazy ___ comments are coming from. Absolutely insane.

As if all but 3 people here never ragged on Jerry? Come on, just stop it.

This is The Zone, so of course there will be 30 years of frustration voiced every time a player shrugs pauses, but this is the type of thing players say to each other all the time.

Quennin, being the best player on defense, obviously needs to step up and lead that entire unit. We haven’t had a true defensive leader in awhile,
Yep, I have no problem with it. Of course, I want to see it happen! Dak can't do it alone. No NFL player can. Not when there are 11 on 11. We need everyone working for the same goal...winning a Super Bowl....not worrying about their next contract. All you have do is win and the money will get taken care of.
