I realize most of you know this already, but for those who don't (or maybe would like a reminder) I'll go over the long-standing phenomenon of home teams during the pre-season.
(BTW, this is not an effort to coveup for yesterday's game, it's just some NFL trivia)

Other than maybe the dress rehearsal game (often week 3 of the preseason), home teams win the vast majority of preseason games. This is, in part, for PR and to get the fan base excited.

  • Home teams often play more starters in the game
  • Play at least some the starters longer
  • Actually game plan a little bit
  • Coach to win the game a bit more vs evaluate talent

  • If a visiting team is planning to sit a player for safety or whatever, they prefer using a road game.
  • Road teams almost never game plan.
  • Although pr4esaeason is mostly about evaluating talent and trimming the roster, it's even moreso for the visiting teams.

Just do this test sometime.
Look at the scores of all preseason games and look at which team was the visitor.
Odds are high than normal that they lost the game.

Not sure if Dallas did any of this tonight but sure seemed like the Ravens did.

All four road team won today as well :)
Not true, but I hear you anyway. There were 8 games, not 4 today.
This weekend so far, the home teams have won 8 of 13.

But yeah, Each game and team are different and this thing isn't at all cut and dry.
I noticed a couple of the road teams pulled out the stops to get the win when they had no business ....which goes against the OP.

The Giants, for example.
Down 26-0 in the 4th, their scrubs ended up scoring 27 straight vs the players the Colts will cut, to end up winning 27-26.
