Glad to see Dlaw healthy and balling again now that he’s got some help.

Hopefully him and Parsons stay healthy.

. I'm shocked he is doing this well in the NFL.

Actually few reasons IMO..........
  • According to some of his coaches and league insiders, he's night and day better from last season. He put in a lot of hard work during the offseason improving his mechanics and accuracy ( actually a couple of articles on his offseason ).
  • Teams have to account for his running ability. He actually runs the ball a lot. For example......through 5 games he leads all NFL QBs in rushing attempts with 68. Lamar Jackson has 49 attempts. In fact, his 68 attempts are only 13 less than Zeke who has 81.
  • He has not one but TWO legit top 5 WRs and top 10 TE.
So in a nutshell, teams have to account for his running AND cover/shut down three top 10 receivers. Some teams simply don't have enough legit defensive players to stop them ( top pass rusher, top LBer, top CB and good S ) but I think we do.

Here's the stat of QBs rushing attempts 2022

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/mo...ts has the most, season, with 37 rush attempts.

I knew he could run. I've never doubted his ability to pick up yards that way. He is a hard worker and a leader. But, some things you can't teach thats how he lost his job at Bama to Tua who is more of a natural QB and processes defenses faster. Jalen is never going to be a classic pocket passer, and I think Philly has done a great job adapting their offense to what he can do. Just like Vick and Lamar, if you can keep him in the pocket, he isn't going to beat you.

Another interesting stat according to PFF which could be the difference in Sunday night's game. Might explain why the Eagles offense has slowed down in some games after getting off to hot scoring starts.

I see what you are saying but what I'm saying is his threat to run offsets his lack of accuracy with tight throws coz more times than not his WRs are wide open.

I'm very interested to see HOW we decide to blitz Jalen Hurts.. because he's a running QB, who can instantly break down big plays with his legs
.. and mobile QBs have killed us in broken plays in Not containing them.

You have to maintain a controlled, corralled ,blitz assignments vs a running type QB.

As John Madden used to say: " it's 2 things defenses fear the most ... SPEED and a RUNNING QB. "

I've seen this since his freshman year at Bama. The guy cannot conduct a passing attack under pressure. At Bama, he would just tuck and run....... granted, to great effect mostly but you can't do that in the NFL. He needs time in the pocket to SEE who is open. There are no timing or anticipatory throws. I'm shocked he is doing this well in the NFL. My guess is that many teams just don't have the dogs on the DL to get to him. We do and I anticipate seeing the erratic version of Hurts on Sunday night.

- yeh, but that was Bama, that was in college,... has Hurts improved as a pure passer this year since the new coaching regime stepped in ?

- Is there something about his team per coach, per support cast, per Hurts himself that has made a bigger difference in Eagles being undefeated and
a virtual threat this year ?
- Is Hurts successfully getting the ball to his receiving weaponry ? ...Devontae, ..AJ Brown .. Goert. .Watkins ..?

I worry about Hurts running if we blitz. Get past the first wave and it's a big gain. Spy with the 5th rusher and have him play for the run seems like the best option.

What's great about this D is we are getting serious pressure with our front 4. Notice the stats say nothing about sacks, it getting pressure that makes him think and react faster than he would like.

If we can get pressure with our front 4, watch Diggs get an interception and, possibly, a pick 6.
Remember: He played against Hurts in practice at Alabama. He knows Hurts.

Its a rare thing for a QB to improve as a pure passer. You can't work your way into being Peyton Manning or Drew Brees b/c its an intangible quality not a muscle. I've been watching the same Jalen Hurts for a long time. Last year, he looked the same as he did at Bama. Good QB but limited.

This year, He didn't throw a TD pass in 3 of their first 5 games. He torched the Jags. So far, i'm not impressed that he's made any leaps.

Not into a level of greatness of HOFers. ..but we've seen guys like Tua T, Lamar Jackson, improve their game enuff to where they are effecting other areas that they previously
had not before.

Jackson was so inefficient at getting his WRs involved that too many times they were no-shows
- it was just TE Mark Andrews and that was it, he's not at a prolific All pro level in that area. but at least he has improved enuff to have his WRs become more of a factor.

What i'd like for our defense to do vs Hurts ?
.... Take him away from his first intital read,. his first intital target - as when he has to re-set in the pocket, try to go thru other read progressions.. then (as you said per Bama) he'll pull and tuck
the ball back down and work his magic legs.

Then thats' when it becomes having to contain and open field tackling vs scrambling.
I'd like to be able to have him in obvious pocket passing and force him to beat us with his throwing arms instead of his running legs,
but if it's Cooper Rush instead of Dak, i dunno how many touches and possessions Hurts will get and Not be in a catch up mode.

DLAW is having a good season so far. Some guys just count sacks. But DLAW is creating a lot of opportunity for others flushing Qbs out of the pocket. He is also the best run defender on the DL.

I agree. I'm just poking fun at one of the troll accounts on the board. Hell one of Parsons sacks vs the Rams was only because of the pressure D Law applied first.

Micah parsons not #1?

I demand a recount.

I think Bosa is out for a while. So Micah can take over.

And before anyone says he gets it by default, remember this:
If Micah was not held on half of his pass rushes (and holding was not called on them) just think how many he would have.

However, was Bosa held as well. How many called vs. not called.

Some fans, was concerned, and maybe rightfully so about losing Gregory. Not about his 6 sacks. But about his QB pressures.

I think most knew his sacks could be replaced, and they have. But his QB pressures have been also. Micah, DLaw, and Fowler has been close, Armstrong already proven better than Gregory. Sam Williams starting to get there also.

These players are turning what Gregory have as pressures into sacks. Far better.

I'm not saying he's Peyton Manning or Drew Brees but he's a better QB this year than he was last year. In fact, I'm more impressed by his commitment, hard work, and leadership than Dak. I'm not saying Dak is lacking in any of these areas but this seems to want it really bad.

This is from MMQB Albert Breer

And that brings you back to where Hurts is as a quarterback, and how remarkable it is that he’s gotten here. We wrote in the Sept. 5 MMQB that he’s improved in areas where young quarterbacks normally don’t—with his anticipation, pocket presence and accuracy.

This is from the Sept. 5 article

https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/09/05/joe-burrow-bengals-secret-success-mmqb

He just keeps finding a way to get better.

“He loves football,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni told me just before a joint practice with the Dolphins. “He’s such a gym rat; he’s always into it. You expect that from a coach’s kid, right? Frank Reich would always say guys that love football that are tough, that are competitive, find a way to reach their ceiling. And that’s what I see in Jalen. He has all the intangibles. You just know he’s gonna get better.

“And he’s done it every year of his career, dating back to his freshman year at Alabama—getting better, getting better, getting better. Goes to Oklahoma, gets better. Then from his first year in the NFL to this year, you keep seeing big improvements.”

Of course, that’s not all that unusual. What is unusual is just how Hurts is getting better as a quarterback.

Normally, quarterbacks don’t get to the NFL and get a whole lot more accurate. Hurts has. Normally, quarterbacks don’t get to the NFL and make big strides in throwing with anticipation. Hurts has done that, too. And normally, a quarterback can’t do a ton to improve his presence in the pocket, either. And, yes, Hurts has also made strides there.
