You know what is amazing about some on this board? Before Drew Henson went to NFL Europe you had guys like Nors talking about whether or not he would be beaten out by Timmy "Pop gun" Chang. You had guys saying he would tank over there.

I don't think any conclusions should be drawn from this experience after just two games, but what DOES amaze me is what we are hearing from some on this board after two games.

Lets see:

*He IS starting for his team. (No surprise there)
*His team is 2-0
*He is leading the league in passing efficiency by a 21 point margin
*He has made some great throws (the TD throw was athletic by any standard, including NFL standards)
*He has a STELLAR attitude. Nothing cocky about the guy, nothing ungrateful about the guy. Just taking this for what it is and doing the best he can.

And all some on here can do is continue to insult him. Why? I just flat out don't get it.

Actually, I think I do get it. And don't throw this garbage out about your love for the Dallas Cowboys and you want us to look elsewhere, etc, etc, adnausium.

It is plain and simple that you have gone on record against him and you want to look smart and be proven right.

All I can say is I hope he continues to improve and one day proves to be the long term answer for our Cowboys. Maybe he will tank over there? Maybe by the end of the year pop gun will over take him? I don't know. If so, THEN I could understand you wanting us to move on.

But why the attitude right now?

If Henson makes it, it'll be that much harder to bash Jerry... and folks in here would go through some serious withdrawal on that day...

I think that is it in a nutshell for many.

But not just with henson, but other players as well.

You know what makes no sense to me? Sure, the fact that he has done all these great things in NFLE means absolutely nothing when you look at the big picture.

However, if he went over there and completely bombed, the same people who are dowplaying what he has accomplished would be sitting high and mighty with I told you so's.

The fact that he doing well over there is a good sign. Does it mean that he is the future...no it does not. Does it mean he has a fighting chance? To me it does.

When choosing between playing bad in Europe versus playing well in Europe, I think the playing well bodes better for him than playing poorly. That does not appear to difficult to understand.

He is alternating with Chang- so they both start. So far he has had one very good game and one that was not. IF he does 3-4 really good games then you have something. Untill then you have NOTHING.

This is a great example of the kinds of responses I've seen.

1. He is alternating with Chang - so they both start.

Just flat out not true. In NFL Europe the backups get to play every game. Chang plays the 2nd quarter in every game, and Henson plays 1,3 and 4. Henson is the starter.

2. Why would you say until then you have NOTHING (all caps) It seems to me that you want us to have NOTHING, and you hope we have NOTHING.

Why not rejoice in what you do have? The guy on our team who chose to go over to NFLE because he wanted some live action leads the league in passing effeciency by a 21 point margin. His team is 2-0. Why not be happy with that at this point?

He is not alternating with Chang. In NFLE, it is the norm that the backup QB plays the 2nd quarter. It is a developmental league and they want teams to allocate players. In order to do that, the team has to know they will get some playing time in order to be evaluated. Make no mistake, Henson is the starter. He plays the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarter of every game which is typical of what the starter gets over there.

Still though if you look at the numbers, Henson isn't getting the attempts he should be, given who he is, and where he is from. Of all the QBs in NFL Europe he should have by far the most attempts.

Henson had 35 attempts.

Hamdon has 47, Campbell has 52, Berlin has 52.

Chang has 28 attempts..., and the dude has the worst completion rating in nfl europe.

They never should have been put on the same team. Chang probably should have been allocated to frankfurt.

I'm encouraged by Hensen's success so far in the NFLE. But he has a long way to go. Heck, I think the Longhorns have a better team than some of the NFLE squads.

Give him time. He's been away from the game for two long. Don't overanalyze his throwing motion or any of that other nonsense. It's important he's simply playing the game.

Don't get overly excited if he lights it up nor too down when he doesn't.

It's all practice. The real lights are in Dallas.

We get excited if he lights it up, because he is supposed to.

Remember when Chad Hutchinson went there, and struggled...?

A quarterback who has a future in the NFL, SHOULD light up NFL Europe.

Delhomme was one of NFL Europe's most accurate passers, and Warner won the MVP there.

IMHO Henson stays.
  • he has improved dramatically
  • his dad is a football coach. something BP values
  • we've invested time & money in him (something JJ values)
  • great attitude
  • sells tickets
  • relatively young with upside
  • has all the tools
  • was considered at one point to be the next Aikman
  • can accept a 3rd stringer role
  • we were offered a 3rd rounder for Romo, so he has trade value
  • we've invested a 3rd rounder on Henson. Romo was free.

if and only if we sign somebody else, Romo is the odd man out

Yeah, but in the scheme of thing...Isn't that exactly how BP likes to see a game managed ? 35 attemps in 6 quarters with a healthy running game is BP's favorite recipe.

No turnovers is another.

He's been lucky that he hasn't had to throw as many pass's, because they have held the lead in the games so far.

Troy never threw as many pass's as his opponents generally...and that was considered a good thing.

Relax folks, Henson is doing just fine...Playing and saying the right things. Don't know if he's always been that way, but sure sounds like exactly what BP is looking for.

Drew Bledsoe had over 35 attempts in 7 games, over 30 attemps in 8 games. Hardly what I would call 35 attempts in 6 quarters... The lowest Bledsoe ever had was 23 attempts in a game.

Drew threw more in the second game than the first, and they were pitching a shut out...

The more attempts Henson gets is directly equivalent to the amount of experience he is actually getting. We didn't send him to NFL Europe to hand the ball off.

QB's are tough to evaluate on any level because so much of what they do is dependent on others...So lighting up or not lighting up is not necessarily the end all

I still think Henson is the future QB of the Dallas Cowboys. I watched both games and I saw improvement in game two. Besides that first game was in a mud pit and no one had a chance to play well in that game.

He looked like a QB in game two in the sense that he was leading the team. On the TD pass he 'made a play', that's all you can ask from him while he's in NFLE.

The thing I want to see out of all of this is - I want Henson to come back with confidence!
When they get into training camp, no matter what he has done in NFLE, I would like to see him playing with the confidence he has learned by playing regularly. Do that and I think he will be our # 2 QB behind Bledsoe...
