As I shared with you after the Lions game, Jason Witten moved into 4th place all time on the Cowboys receiving yardage list, moving past HOFer "Bullet" Bob Hayes.

He is 645 yards behind Tony Hill for 2nd place on the all time Cowboys list. Drew Pearson in 3rd is 419 yards ahead. Michael Irvin is a long ways away still.

He is now 106 receptions behind Irvin.

He is 18 receptions behind Ozzie Newsome for 3rd all time among NFL Tight Ends. 19 more and he is alone in third and aiming for Shannon Sharpe next.

Going into our bye he and Steve Smith of the Panthers were tied for 45th place all time in the NFL. Smith caught three passes last week to move into 45th place alone for now. Here are the players just ahead of them that they could reach in the next 4 to 5 games.

37. Laverneous Coles, 674
38. Herman Moore, 670
39. Ricky Proehl, 669
40. Amani Toomer, 668
41. Anquan Boldin, 665
42. Ozzie Newsome, 662 (HOF)
43. Bobby Engram, 650
44. Charley Taylor, 649 (HOF)
45. Steve Smith, 647
46. Jason Witten, 644

*************

I thought I would also let you know where DeMarcus Ware stands on the all time sack leader board and alert you to a few players just ahead of him.

35. Jared Allen, 91.5
T36. Julius Peppers, 91.0
T36. Trevor Pryce, 91.0
38. Bryant Young, 89.5
39. Ken Harvey, 89.0
40. Leonard Litte, 87.5
41. Willie McGinnist, 86.0
42. DeMarcus Ware, 85.0

Isn't it unreal that Ware will reach 100 sacks in the next year or so?

Man, it seems like yesterday when he was drafted.

My money is on Ware reaching 100 by season's end. :D

Shoulda taken Merriman

to me the most amazing stat from the Detroit game is that despite their pretty pathetic O line, De Ware did not get a sack.

I'm surprised to see Coles on that list, I knew he had a nice career but he did not seem like he's be in that company to me.

Allen has one more year in the league then Ware but they are about the same age. Allen has a few more sacks so far this year then Ware too. It will be interesting to see how they finish their careers, hopefully a long time from now.

Oh, I know. That's about the only instance where we've won in a draft war like that. Not even the biggest whiner on these boards would agree with taking Merriman over Ware anymore.

Really? That's amazing considering how the Cowboys are pretty much the NFL's most successful franchise over the past 50 years.

You'd think they'd have more of these type draft success stories like taking Jason Witten one round after the eagles took TE L.J. Smith.

Ya know, stuff like that.

You know what I mean. How often do we hear about Ellis vs. Moss, Reed vs. Roy L. Williams, Steven Jackson vs. Julius Jones, etc.? All the time.

Yeah, but if we win one, like with Witten vs. L.J. Smith as you pointed out, you never hear about it. Instead, we suck.

That's because hindsight is 20/20 vision and some people can't help peering out their backsides. :D

That would be a fun thread to start. How many of these battles have we won?

I know another big one we won was Blair Thomas versus Emmitt Smith. I think Troy Aikman versus Tony Mandarich was another.

But... but... doesn't that cloud their vision?? I'm told this is one of the main side effects of Craniorectal Inversion Syndrome (CIS)...

I will be the first to admit I wanted roid head over Ware. I am happy to say I ate my serving of crow proudly. I love Ware he is a great player and a great man.

Thinking about it, I believe the appropriate acronym for Craniorectal Inversion Syndrome should be CRIS...

Haha. Silberbear your posts are much needed. Have you been around and I'm just missing it? Ha.

Hey, those geniuses in New England decided Jeff Marriott, offensive guard from Missouri, was a better selection in the 5th round than Tom Brady.
