Priest Holmes to possibly retire tomorrow... *Merge*

From the local NBC TV station.

Jack Harry a very respectable journalist has had a source tell him that Priest could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.


The word is he can become paralyzed if he is hit again. It seems the second opinion Priest got last week found a lump by this spine.

Jack add later in the broadcast. Speculation abounds but no conformation about his retirement. The source was a family member.

Said that Priest could announce his retirement as early as Thursday. Said a hit to the head caused a lump in his spinal cord that could cause paralysis with another hit.

I agree, He is a class act. At Texas he played behind Ricky Williams and did not get a lot of playing time but never b!tched about it and when he got his chances to play made the most of it. Comes to the NFL as an undrafted FA and ends up having some great seasons. I wish there were more guys like Holmes in the NFL

Priest Holmes' Career May Be Over

Insiders at Arrowhead Stadium tell NBC Action News Sports Director Jack Harry that Priest Holmes, very possibly, has played his final game in a Chiefs uniform. One highly placed source tells Harry, Holmes could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.

The 32-year-old running back arrived back in town Tuesday night from Miami after undergoing some extensive testing on his spine. Doctors reportedly found a lump and should Holmes take a severe hit, he could become paralyzed. At his weekly press conference Tuesday, head coach Dick Vermeil indicated he didn't really know what was going on with Holmes. Holmes has already undergone three knee surgeries. He has failed to finish two of the last 3 seasons. He suffered the head injury in the San Diego game, and has now learned of this latest problem with his spine.

KSHB-TV's Jack Harry (Channel 41 Sports) just reported that sources inside the Kansas City Chiefs organization have said that RB Priest Holmes might retire from pro football as early as Thursday afternoon. Holmes was in Florida today getting a third opinion on his spine/neck after that crushing hit he took from Chargers DE Shawne Merriman two weeks ago. It's rumored to be a lump on or within Priest's spine, and paralysis is the clear risk factor involved. More news as we get it.

Ouch...man that is sad to hear. Two players forced to retire from possible career ending injuries in just one week. If it is true, then I wish him all the best and his family too. He was a hard worker on and off the field and overachieved his expectations from coming into this league. He will be missed.

I realize that of course. However this is the first place that MOST people come to read. Its pretty big news and will be moved within a day anyway.

There is a lot of TO news on this forum, which technically should be in NFL or Opinion also.

I understand why it's posted here, but the Eagles are in our division and we're playing them next week. So all stories related to it, tend to make them a little more relevant.

This is not to say that a story on Priest retiring or not, isn't big news, but it's not really relevant to the Cowboys, at this time. JMO.

In my defense, I did have the ORIGINAL "Priest is done for the year thread" ... and I called it two days ago! (we need a Nors-like "I told you so" emoticon!)

It would be very regrettable. His 2001-2003 run was up there with some of the best by a running back in NFL history, especially in terms of touchdowns scored. Based on his play and what I've been able to read about him as a person, he's become my favorite NFL player period, Cowboys players included.

If he indeed has played his last game, the debate will begin on whether his relatively short amount of spectacular seasons make him Hall-worthy. Similar scenario to Terrell Davis, and on a lesser scale, Kurt Warner.
