I didn't like the Fasano pick either (mostly because he would have still been there further down the draft)...but given what Jones said about reducing the role of the FB in the offense, I understand this selection.

Maybe this is ammo to either get him to agree to a contract or let him go if Fasano works out. The Eagles have been doing this for years and I have not always thought they were right, but they have been able to allow RFA and FA to walk and fill in behind them with recent draft picks.

One of the biggest things to me in this draft is that we took BPA to our board and therby added depth to the roster. We no longer had to reach in desperation to an average at best player.

I understand about the whole 2 TE sets and all, but seriously, can someone explain what role Hannam is suppose to play? And for the money he signed for, I can't see him as just a backup but the way JJ talks about Fasano, it sounds like he will be.

Aside from the injury concerns about him; I guess I don't like the Fasano pick because I don't like the two TE offense. I am a big proponent of the Sid Gilman (Norv Turner/Mike Martz) aggressive offense. The two TE offense is a passive "let the defense win the game" type offense and I have always hated Parcells hide in a shell offensive philosophy.

I'm with Michael Irvin on this one, "Defense doesn't win games; putting POINTS on the board wins games"

Sure. BP didn't have confidence that the TEs we had prior to Hannam could step up. In a two TE set you need two legitimate starters and at least one solid backup. Hannam is that backup. The other 2 or 3 TE's need to start looking for employment.

Gosselin (who had the most accurate Top 100 AND the most accurate mock draft again this year) had Fasano ranked 53rd. Scouts Inc. had him rated 48th. DraftCountdown.com ranked him 60th. Mel Kiper had him going 37th in his mock. And we drafted him 53rd. So I doubt he would have lasted much longer.

It all depends on the two tight ends. If they are great blockers you run a power running offense. If your TEs can get down the field and catch the ball, you're more flexible, able to line up and pound it or unleash a potent aerial attack. I don't see this as a move to grind games out. They're adding another pass-catching player at the TE position so defenses can't key on Witten. When Flo went down Witten had to stay in to pass protect instead of getting down field and catching the ball. This was when a previously potent Dallas O started to stagnate. With Fasano on the field teams will have to play it honest because Fasano can catch the ball too. These aren't your daddy's TEs.

Witten is one of our best offensive players. Any change that gets the ball in his hands more is a great one in my book.

He went right about where his value said he should have gone.

I'd bet we'd tried to trade down farther and couldn't get it done. At that point, we still wanted a 4th rounder. Since we moved back on this pick, I'm sure we took the best trade option available to us without risking the player we wanted.

It was only not a need to those who don't do important things like run or coach the team.

Jones has been specific, Fasano is taking the fullback role in our offense, much like an H-back like Washington uses.

I don't really care about grades, but writing like this only fuels ignorance about what we are attempting to accomplish.

I wonder if there is a thought that somehow this might give the organization a bit of an advantage when they go to negoiate Witten's next contract. Isn't he an ERFA this season? Most have been talking about how we need to resign him, I see similarities in how both Fasano and Witten play the position. I think this might give Jerry some leverage in the process of re-signing him because they won't be stuck with him being the only TE capable of starting on the roster.
