Making me dizzy and kind of sick.

Ware has much better highlights, and has all pro written all over him. But I just think Newman is so consistent.

.....Not that Im down on Ware one little bit, im just high on Newman

I thought the Buffalo pick ended up being Spears?

Didn't Dallas finish with the better record and the first pick was Buffalo's which was Ware?

:lmao:
It's not that suprising that you can't.

If I had to take one defensive player off our team it would have to be Ware, my logic is this, when he's applying pressure the corners don't have to great. Now I am a HUGE Newman fan and think he's top 5 easy as for as corners go but at OLB, Ware is right up there with Merriman to me.

Prisco is one dumb writer to think Ware was Buffalo's pick . It amazes me that this mistake is made. That trade sucked in hindsight. Steven Jackson for JuJo and spears, not so good. I was happy at the time because I am an Irish fan, but Jujo just ain't cutting it and Barber looks better. I was high on Merrimen as was the rest of the world but Ware is doing good. I have to give this draft a D.

We will know this year just how good the 2004 draft was. Julius, Spears and Crayton are on their 4th year and under a new coach. Its now or never. Looking at it strictly by position, you got 2 starters and a very good 3rd WR on a playoff team out of one draft. I would say that that is at least a C+, maybe a B-. and remember this: BP thought he needed Spears more then Ware and without that extra pick we probably would have traded down some. Now we might have gotten someone good for that; we also might have gotten a top player if we had not traded down in 2004. you just never know.
Bottom line is that it is pretty reasonable to think that we MIGHT NOT HAVE GOTTEN WARE, without that trade.

My point was that there aren't many times when one team selects two Pro-Bowl caliber players in the same draft.

I'm not saying the Skins 04 draft was the best ever or even the best in recent memory, but it was very good. There's no denying that. Much better than a C or whatever Prisco graded them. They also used part of that draft to get Portis & a QB who led them to a playoff win.

I still don't see how anyone can say that trade sucked. We have not seen the best of Spears or Jones yet IMHO.

Here's the 2004 Draft for the Cowboys:

2 11(43) Julius Jones - Notre Dame
2 20(52) Jacob Rogers - Southern Cal
3 20(83) Stephen Peterman - LSU
4 25(121) Bruce Thornton - Georgia
5 12(144) Sean Ryan - Boston Coll.
7 4(205) Nathan Jones - Rutgers
7 15(216) Patrick Crayton - NW Oklahoma St.
7 22(223) Jacques Reeves - Purdue

Grade of "C" from me (factoring in Bills' 1st round pick which netted Spears).

Cooley a Pro-Bowl caliber player? His last two years have been pretty stout. Ok, I can live with that...who is the other? Surely you're not suggesting that Taylor actually deserves to go to Hawaii...

There's one...any more?
Atlanta: 2001 - Vick and Crumpler
Baltimore: 1996 -- Ogden and Ray Lewis, 2000 -- Jamal Lewis and Adalius Thomas
Buffalo: 2001 -- Nate Clements, Aaron Schobel and Travis Henry
Carolina: 2001 -- Dan Morgan, Kris Jenkins, and Steve Smith
Chicago: 2000 -- Brian Urlacher and Mike Brown, 2004 -- Tommie Harris, Nathan Vasher, Tank Johnson and Bernard Berrian
Cincy: 2001 -- Justin Smith, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson and TJ Whos your momma

That's through the C's... 6 out of 8 teams have IMO at least one better draft in the past 10 years than the one you're hyping. The other two teams... Arizona and Cleveland. Any more questions?

I think any draft that you come out of with two or three starters is pretty good. That is unless you like have 4 first rounders or something, like the Jets had one year.

Still, ending up with 2 or 3 starters has to be considered a success. Particularly when a lot of teams end up with only 1 guy (or sometimes none) from a draft who help the team.

Particularly Spears. I firmly believe that Phillips scheme is going to free up Spears to do what he does best.

When he was at LSU, he continuously shot upfield at the snap and harrassed the QB / Ball carrier on nearly every play. What made him special is that he was a 300 pound guy who moved like a 240 pound linebacker. Well, when Parcells asked him to hold up the RT and read pass or run... that completely negated Spears quickness and movement skills. It only focused on his strength... which any 300 pound guy has. Thus, he was limited to being like any 300 pounder in Parcells defense.

Now, in Wade's scheme... Spears will again be asked to shoot upfield at the snap... choosing a gap and moving quickly into it. If the run is into that gap, he'll make a good play behind the line of scrimmage. If it's a pass play, then he'll be half way to the QB before the passer even sets his feet. He should become much more of a force on passing downs.

By that same token, I expect Hatcher to become much more effective under Phillips, too. So look for our DE's to become playmakers much more than in the old scheme.

I for one, can't wait to see what they do under Wade. We just seem to concentrate on what Ware and Spencer will do to the QB's... but don't forget that Spears and Hatcher will be right there too.

Should be fun!

Great research. None of those were on the top of my head. So, what this means is that in the last 10 years, there are a handful of teams that have drafted 2+ QUALITY players. Again, I never said that the Skins 2004 draft was the best in recent memory, just solid. Certainly more than a C!
