Pete Prisco regraded the 2006 draft.

No surprises that ours was horrible. The main jest of the story was to praise casserly for just saying no to Vince Young and Reggie Bush. Did Casserly lose his job over that? Sad if so...he had a GREAT draft that year for the Texans.

Dallas Cowboys

Definition of a bad draft: No starters from eight picks. That's the Dallas draft in 2006. They don't have one player on their team from this draft penciled in to start in 2009. Horrible. First-round pick Bobby Carpenter has been nothing more than a backup who has started once in a while. Second-round pick Anthony Fasano is the starting tight end in Miami. The rest of the draft is made up of backups or players long gone. It was a bad year for Jerry Jones.
Grade: F

sorry, just some trivia. F may have been slightly harsh though. Maybe a D?

Here are the Texans

Houston Texans

It was an outstanding draft. Anytime you can get four quality starters, three of whom have already been to the Pro Bowl, it's a huge year. The only real miss was third-round pick Charles Spencer, and he had a bad knee injury that cut short his time in Houston.
Grade: A+

Funny thing is if in hindsight the 2006 draft was great for Dallas I'm sure the credit would have gone to the Tuna. Since it was a bad draft it was Jones. Oh well. It does prove that grades right after draft mean zippo. It's talent meeting opportunity meeting desire that makes a player successful.

lol, no kidding.

I am sure it was Jerry who had a man crush on a former Parcells player's kid and a tight end coached by Charlie Weis.

:laugh2:

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I'm the biggest hater of Jerry's drafts around but that was one was all Parcells.

Jerry did turn Anthony Fasano, a 2nd round pick, into half of a 4th round pick. (Akin Ayodele was the other half).

Antonio Cromartie and Devin Hester would have been amazing 1st and 2nd round picks vs Bobby Carpenter and Anthony Fasano. That's the luxury of hindsight.

Marcus McNeil could be our LT right now. He was right there for the nabbing.

where are all the Parcells lovers? Still basking in the 2005 draft? The draft where he wanted to pick Spears instead of Ware at #9? Or maybe you are looking for the 2nd round pick he spent on Jacob Rogers....even though our OWN SCOUTS begged Jerry Jones not to do it! Or perhaps you are basking in the glow of him drafting Steven Jackson instead of Julius Jones, because remeber, Parcells said there was not much difference in the premiums backs that year.

And this is not even about bashing Parcells, rather pointing out that Parcells track record ain't that much better than Jerry Jones when it comes to this draft thing.

OUCH

If Haloti Ngata was gone (he went 12th, we had the 18th pick), I wanted Carpenter so I was obviously stupid but my second choice was Marcus McNeil who went 32 picks later.

Re-grading 2006 Draft: Casserly's big score now apparent

Dallas Cowboys - Grade: F

I have a feeling our 2007 draft won't look much better when it's regraded. It appears to be up to Anthony Spencer to salvage that class. Tons of pundits keep pointing to how great Ireland/Parcells were, but Ireland threw up back to back bricks with the 2006/2007 drafts.

It was a pretty terrible draft. I think this team will survive on the 2008 draft for the next couple of years just like we survived on the 2005 draft up till that point.

I grade drafts differently because I'm not naive enough to think every contributor to a team is a starter. 4 of the 8 guys drafted are still on the team 4 years later.

Carpenter
Hatcher
Watkins
McQuistan

A couple more could lose their jobs this year, but the average life of an NFL player is 4 years. I'd give this Draft a C.
