<as if we didn't already know  >

Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer could be in trouble. The Cowboys struggled in a big way down the stretch on defense. And the talk is Bill Parcells would love an excuse to make Todd Bowles the team's defensive coordinator.

One coach who isn't getting enough credit for the coaching job he's doing is Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs. He's taken a unit that isn't overly talented -- especially at corner and linebacker -- and done a nice job with them. The Saints will look to upgrade their corners and linebackers in the offseason. They would also like to find a power tackle inside.

That was on top of my Christmas list. Zimmer has never done anything to show he's a defensive talent. Ever.

I remember when he took over when Campo was the coach and his unit allowed several runners 200+ yards. Wasn't that a team record for futility? Campo had to step in and fix it.

What about Jim Mora Jr. as a DC, he did a good job in San Fran as their DC.

You know a great deal of us have been throwing out names of not only new head coaches, but more to this specific threads topic Defensive Coordinators.

We have thrown out names of people we would like...wade phillips, jim johnson and so on.

But people really should understand that if Zimmer really is gone, chances are we will not hire some of the names we have brought up on our wish lists.

Chances are it will be someone like Bowles who bill has exp with not only here but elsewhere...or another coach out there, like Henderson, who Bill has exp with.

I am positive if it were not for Jerry convincing (and at the start, at least, mandating) bill to keep Zimmer...Bill would have gotten rid of him before now.

Just remember, chances are we are not getting some big name guy, it will probably be someone bill has some exp with and chances are it will probably be bowles as the article suggests. Bill brought him in already.

Not saying that is what I want, so do not misunderstand me here, I would rather have a proven coach like a wade phillips for the DC position...but just stating what will probably happen if zimmer is let go.

So there go my hopes of ditching this idiotic 3-4 defense. :(

:hammer:

I have a feeling we are going to be disappointed with who is eventually named DC if Zimmer is let go.

I don't know anything about Bowles, but I want somebody Bill doesn't "know." I think Bill puts his thumb on these guys he brings in, because he knows he can control them. I would like somebody who was an aggressive DC to come in, so Bill would be challenged. IMO the 3-4 works the best when it's done aggressively... I think the 4-3 is better if you're trying to play bend/don't break.

Well, maybe this weekend will turn into smiles. :)

But with this defense, I'm not sure.

I was a young lad when we won our last playoff game. If someone told me back then it would be another 10+ years before we won our next ... we'd all be frowning. :(

Now I'm old, broken down, poor, married with children ... and still no playoff wins to smile about.

I agree in some ways.

I don't think many were wanting who we got to take over for Sean when he left...but the offense has not been too bad, predictable at times but not too bad.

You also have to wonder what it could have been with Sean more at the helm considering what he is doing at New Orleans.

You also have to consider wondering about Gibbs when he went with Sean to NOLA.

Like you I don't know much about Bowles. I don't know if he will be just a yes man to Bill, although bill says he likes coaches with fire and I think he has talked about it before, maybe about bowles in particular.

Maybe he would be a good DC...just don't know.

I just have a feeling that it will not be someone on the list of names people are throwing out there.

Yes I here you. The ends of seasons the last few years have been a big let down.

I keep saying I would rather finish strong and with momentum than to start or have a streak in the beginning or middle of the season.

The guys Parcells knew on offense have worked some wonders this year. I think an assortment of defensive coaches all with nice ideas could do the same on defense. Clearly Parcells will allow innovation (people said he would never do so on offense, this has been proven wrong) - you just need to have ideas that aren't crap.

Oh yeah, it may indeed end up working out... I just think we'll be initially disappointed, because we won't have any game film or past to really sink our teeth into and say, "this is how our D will be." Like if we got a Phillips, Capers, etc.

We just need to be prepared for somebody we've never heard of.

Ah, this post brings back awesome memories of the horde losing their collective mind when Saunders went to Washington and we picked up Chris Palmer. When the Giants hire Capers as a DC this offseason, I'm sure more cries of "There's no salary cap on coaches, the Cowboys are missing the boat" will fly from the sky.

My first thought was, will Bill even be here next year? Personally, I don't think so. But to more to your point, I definitely agree it will probably not be a "name" coordinator.

And if my feeling is true about Parcells, then I suppose that further complicates things as a new HC would want his own coordinators. Add to that Jerry's stated plan that when the time came to hire a new HC, he was keeping the 3-4 so the new hire would have have familiarity to get the correct DC.

All that said, I would have no problem with Bowles, based on the little I've heard of him.

I'm not so sure if I want someone named "Bowles" as our DC when our defense has been so "crappy" lately.
