Here are two players who could be rising into the first round. One is Arizona corner Antoine Cason, a smooth cover player. The other is Arkansas State safety Tyrell Johnson.

Cason, whose father played in the NFL, was considered a potential high first-round pick before the 2007 season. But some scouts dropped him down because they didn't think he had great speed and he had trouble playing off coverage. Cason ran under 4.5 at his Pro Day workout and most scouts that I spoke to think he's more than capable of playing off. Cason could go 26th to Jacksonville.

Johnson is a solidly built 6-foot, 207-pound safety who has the speed to excel in coverage. With the modern game going to safeties who can run, Johnson's stock is on the rise. He might even be ahead of Miami's Kenny Phillips as the top safety in this draft.

• There has been some reports that Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib is "undraftable" because of character issues. According to a handful of coaches and personnel people that I queried, that's not the case.

"It's not like he's Pacman Jones," one coach said.

Talib has admitted and been open about failing three tests for marijuana at Kansas. He also had a high school incident involving a stolen computer and a pawn shop. But he hasn't hid from any of it.

The feeling is still that he'll go in the first round. How about Tampa Bay at No. 20?

Dallas is said to be willing to trade the 28th pick in the first round for a veteran receiver. That's in part because the team feels there is a big drop on their board from 23 down.

The Cowboys pick 22nd and have their eyes on Arkansas running back Felix Jones. If they trade for a receiver, it will probably be Detroit's Roy Williams.

That will be risky. Why not just stay where they are and take Texas' receiver Limas Sweed? His wrist is healthy again and he's a younger version of Williams
.

Why is it risky trading for Roy Williams? He's very young and much more proven than Limas Sweed. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I agree... not a great comparison at all. There was a reason that Roy Williams was picked at the beginning of the draft when he came out vs pick number 28 for Sweed.

Prisco must think that all it will take to get Roy Williams is the 28th pick. It will take more than that I believe. Just ask the Redskirts.

I've also read articles that say Sweed's wrist injury is a red flag for WRs coming in to the NFL that it is the type that dogs guys and shortens careers. Could just be an effort to lower his value but Roy Williams was an elite prospect in his draft and Sweed is an low first-high second.

So how are we gonna get Roy for a 1st when the Commanders would probably offer more?

lol....well bring him aboard, then.

3 separate times he tested positive and also that other incident. Prisco is an idiot if he does not think that some teams would take him off the board.

the difference there is that Chad Johnson and Anquan Boldin still have contracts in place, whereas RW is a free agent after this season...so technically it should be a little easier (in terms of comp) to acquire RW than the other two

Oh I agree. But it will take more than the 28 to get him. That's all I was saying.

Roy Williams is 26 years old. Sweed's younger but not that much younger. I know Roy Williams (not really) and Limas Sweed is no Roy Williams.

If we get Williams for #28, I'll be doing cartwheels on Saturday.

I like Sweed and while he is younger than RW he was never as good as RW. I'll take Sweed but I would rather have Roy

roy has proven himself in the nfl...i like sweed, but what take a chance on an unproven player. every year, there are busts...don't take that chance....roy would be a much better use of that pick.

the only reason detroit would consider it is that he's in his last year of his contract and they may lose him anyway next year. it makes sense on both sides.

Limas Sweed is nothing like Roy Williams. Limas Sweed can run straight ahead and out jump people, like a poor man's Plaxico Burress, but that's about it. Roy Williams could that too, but he can also cut on a dime out of his break. He could also take a reverse or bubble screen and juke 5 defenders out of their jocks and take it 70 yards to the house.

Did these guys not watch these players in college?

Roy Williams was unbelievable and Limas Sweed was sorta solid.... good grief.

The Commanders would have to have a contract extension agreed upon with Williams before making such a move. Otherwise, they run the risk of "renting" him for just 1 season.

Jerry seems to be very interested in Williams, and it has been well-documented that Williams wants to be a Cowboy. So it's possible that the 2 sides have already reached an extension agreement if the trade were to go down.

Now it's just up to Detroit to send him our way...

didnt Sweed break some of Roy's TD records though?

dont get me wrong, I think RW is the more talented player...but I think Sweed is being downgraded by some simply because they didnt see him do anything this yr...if you flip flop last yr and this yrs numbers, I think people would be a little more excited about him
