Despite the fact that star defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd would not be working out at Florida's Pro Day Tuesday, representatives of all 32 NFL teams were on hand.
According to the Twitter account for the Senior Bowl (which had representatives present), there were several recognizable faces in the crowd in Gainesville, including Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert and the new braintrust in Jacksonville, coach Gus Bradley and general manager David Caldwell.
Teams had been alerted that Floyd would not be working out Tuesday due to a minor ankle injury he'd suffered running drills at the combine. Linebacker Lerentee McCray also did not participate in Tuesday's action. Both plan to workout for scouts on campus on March 22.
This news, as well as rain showers pelting the turf, made for less than ideal conditions for the talent evaluators on hand but several of the talented Gators still showed off the athleticism to warrant the trip.
The biggest news of the day may have been the workout turned in by junior outside linebacker Jelani Jenkins, who had not been able to participate at the combine due to his continued rehabilitation following the foot surgery which ended his 2012 season prematurely.
Jenkins measured in at 6-foot (5/8) and 237 pounds and timed between 4.65-4.69 seconds, according to the Senior Bowl. He also reportedly looked athletic in positional drills, which isn't surprising considering that his movement skills stand out on tape.
Running back Mike Gillislee and free safety Josh Evans both elected to run the 40-yard dash as well. Both had run at the combine with Gillislee coming in at 4.55 seconds and Evans at 4.58. Neither was able to significantly better their times Tuesday.
Several of Florida's other prospects elected simply to focus on their positional drills, including strong safety Matt Elam, widely regarded as the second-best prospect (behind Floyd) from the Gators this year, as well as offensive tackle Xavier Nixon, inside linebacker Jon Bostic and tight end Jordan Reed.
