Problem with Mike McCarthy

Mike isn’t a bad coach at all certainly better than what Garrett was. McCarthy would do better coaching a different team that has different dynamics. His type of personality won’t stand up to Jerry and the culture Jerry creates. WE all know that Jerry’s culture is what has ruined this franchise. Until there is a head coach who has the balls to tell Jerry the culture needs to change and we are going to do it my way then this will continue. And Jerry’s ego will never allow it. So suck it up Cowboys fans, we will continue to root for one of the worst franchises in professional sports. A punch line for everyone.
All Mike needs is a good running game, and a better defensive coordinator. There is no need to fire the best coach Dallas has had since Jimmy Johnson.

Keep drafting interior defensive linemen and linebackers, and sign some in free agency also. And get a better center. See if Bill Callahan will come back to coach the Oline.

Cowboy fans surely must realize by now that Big Mac's dominant "personality" trait of unfailing loyalty to whomever writes his checks is precisely why he is such a perfect fit for the Jerry Jones' run Dallas Cowboys, no?

Give Big Mac a lot of talent, force a competent Defensive Coordinator on him instead of allowing him to hire one of his cronys, and put him in a division with bad teams (Washington & NYG in the East, Detroit and Chicago in the North back in the day) and he is both a pretty good regular season head coach and a pleasant personality to be around.

Another one of Big Mac's "strengths" is that he has never desired the spotlight and has always been willing to defer to bigger personalities like Rodgers/Dak/Jerry.

14 years ago in 2010, Big Mac rode a 6th seed wild card team that went 4-0 in the playoffs all the way to a Super Bowl victory.

Big Mac has not sniffed another Super Bowl appearance since 2010 and likely never will.

His playoff record, outside of 2010, is 7-11.

“Striking fear” into this new generation of players won’t work. Gen Z won’t respond to motivation by fear. Name me one successful Head Coach in the NFL that currently rules his roster by fear. You cannot do it.

Problem with MM is that all the players like him. Notice how they’re all standing up for him? It’s time to make the boys uncomfortable. The buddy system doesn’t work. Time for a hard assed, no nonsense head coach that purges the roster of the softness and brings in more hard nosed scrappers.
Great point IMO. Look at the continual flags. Not the effort flags....but the discipline flags. There seems to be no accountability. MM is a great guy. Heck I'd love to sit down and have lunch and talk his leg off. But doesn't seem to be high on discipline. Lack of effort isn't punished. Guys on D flat out quit in the Buffalo game. Next week there they are starting again. If the players have no fear it's a lost cause. I understand it's professional football but they can to be held accountable.
It's also why I fear a Belichick or Vrabel wouldn't work here under Jerry but that type is needed.

You pretty much summed up our situation.
We are really screwed until Jerry moves on.
A lot of us on this forum already knew this.
We just choose to follow the team anyway with zero expectations.
The key is not to get sucked in thinking this year is going to be different.

You don't need to fire McCarthy for that. It just requires Jerry to be on the same page with Mike. So if Mike say no, Jerry backs it up. The option to go over the coaches head gets removed.
Until it changes, nothing changes. Same deal, same management, it'll be a rinse and repeat.

Exactly. We're just spinning the wheels in the dirt trying to solve a problem that everyone realizes what it is but because it's the owners baby no one wants to call it ugly.

Yes. But I doubt that ever happens with Jerry in charge.
You know why?
Jerry does not want to be uncomfortable too.

I agree. Dan Quinn is an over -hyped defensive coordinator. At the start of the season, all I heard how great the defense was gonna be. He was terrible when it counted. Personally, I hope he's gone. Dallas needs a tough, aggressive defensive coordinator.

I am more disappointed in Quinn than McCarthy. But my disappointments started about 6 games ago. We should have seen this coming. Actually, I think some people may have mentioned the soft defense before this game. But the fact is, the way this defense has played for a while we should have seen this coming.

Quinn was not prepared for this game and he did not get his players ready for this game. His switch to zone, an unfamiliar defense for the Cowboys player, led to all the blown coverages and easy chunk plays for Green Bay. I have no idea what Quinn was thinking but I do not want to see something like that again. He needs to go. We need a DC that preaches relentless pressure and aggression. Watching Tampa overwhelm the Eagles last night I was asking myself, why did our defense not play with that kind of aggression and urgency? Kudos to Todd Bowles and his coaches for having his team recognize that this was a playoff game and loser goes home. The Cowboys never play with that kind of confidence and urgency. McCarthy is good enough but Quinn soiled the sheets badly. This was a great opportunity for Dallas to get to the NFCC game and the defense simply did not show up. Neither did the offense, but this offense always starts slow. The blown coverages all games were such a shock to me. Inexcusable and embarrassing.

Everybody liked Pete Carroll too. Yall can blame Jerry and coaches all day but the players are weak. Richard sherman said the defense built the culture. As you can see with Seattle now he was correct. Wheres the tough defense now in Seattle?

I'm saying that nothing is going to change till Jerry relents. You can go find the most hardnosed SOB out there and that person will walk out rather than dealing with Jones. You saw this with Parcells. You will see the same with Bill Belichick.
I don't believe Belichick would come here.

I said this exact same thing in the Jane Slater thread yesterday…knowing the players like him should get him fired to make things uncomfortable. The issue..which was discussed on the radio today..is that Jerry won’t fire himself. Allman said if he was GM he’d tell Jerry no more interviews or radio shows because it undermines the team and coaches. But he doesn’t care. He doesn’t want it uncomfortable

Every player likes a HC who is patting me on my back at the end of a game on the sidelines after I laid a stink bomb on the field. Yeah baby, bring him back....don't want one who will actually confront me and tell me to get my head out of my arse during the game.
