I've been a real turd in the punchbowl recently, but the Rangers have now lost another major asset.

Profar will probably need surgery to repair his shoulder; at any rate he will not be able to throw this year, and even swinging a bat has not been tolerable.

Seems like there's an injury bug infesting the Metroplex.

And I presume everyone's heard that Harrison had his C-spine fused; he's lost as well.

And the thing is there are some wicked surgeries going on with this team...

Some of these guys may not be ready to either play next spring or be able to play as well as what they did or as well as the Ranger braintrust had hoped.

Harrison had L5-S1 fused due to instability - spondylolisthesis.
His career could be done.

Figueroa and Perez have UCL injuries - the kind that may lead to Tommy John surgery. Scheppers also.

I'm wondering if Nick Hayden can pitch.

Rangers need to get younger also, but Profar is still a pup. Year-round ball can start causing overuse injuries at an early age.

It's been a rough couple of years as a Rangers fan. Between all the guys who've left as FA and all the injuries it's tough. Especially when you think about this team was in serious World Series Contention not too long ago.

Yeah, some of the more recent personnel decisions have not worked out. The players we let go - Cruz, Kinsler, Chris Davis, Smoke, Napoli - look like allstars, and our pitching staff has gone the direction of the Cowboys DL. The Fielder deal looks like a huge albatross, and we don't really have an answer for 1B (although Moreland has shown some flashes). The guy who was the rising genius, the youngest GM ever, has hit a bit of a rough patch. The farm has saved us in the past, and it's still top-notch, but we've tried several pitching prospects (out of necessity), and nobody has exceeded expectations. I'd like to stay optimistic for this year, but you can't win without pitching, and no other team is interested in letting any go at midseason.

The good news? Choice and Odor have impressed, and the top 2 draft picks should be keepers.

There's always next year.

Now Moreland is done also, succumbing to reconstructive ankle surgery. We officially have no first baseman, and our double and triple-A guys are not ready for the Bigs.

If the Rangers somehow make the post season, Wash should be a legitimate MOY candidate.

Yeah, about as much chance as the Yankees making the post season. At these point there are several better teams in the AL and the Rangers/Yankees look like .500 clubs.

So which pitcher are we going to acquire like the Dempster, Lee, and Garza trades of the past and then lose them to free agency? Come on Rangers.

I hate desperation deals - you're always going to overpay, and the signee can rarely achieve expectations. Thankfully, the Rangers have as many holes as the Cowboys, so there's less chance of them making such as a bad deal that plugs only one obvious hole.
