Bears To Decline Option For Josh Sitton
February 20th, 2018 at 3:28pm CST by Dallas Robinson
The Bears will decline their 2018 option on guard Josh Sitton, meaning he’ll become a free agent next month, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (Twitter link).

Sitton had been scheduled to collect $8MM cash in 2018: $7.4MM in base salary, $500K in roster bonus, and $100K in workout bonus. All told, Sitton would have counted for roughly $8.573MM on the Bears’ 2018 salary cap. By declining Sitton’s option, Chicago will create nearly $8MM in additional cap space.

The 31-year-old Sitton originally joined the Bears in 2016 after surprisingly being released by the division rival Packers. Although minor health issues have been a concern, Sitton has been outstanding in the Windy City. Just last season, Sitton ranked as the the fifth-best guard in the league, per Pro Football Focus, and his marks have remained steady throughout the duration of his career.

If he doesn't want to get the highest bid possible, it's an interesting stop gap.

Still rather draft one day 2/3.

Exactly. If he comes cheap enough, he could be a good pickup.

When I first read the title, I thought the OP left out the M and meant Does your favorite team need a good GM. Yes is the answer to that.

Since the Bears are refusing to $8M, pretty sure his numbers will be lower. I'm guessing $5-6M should do it ........ good if we do not wanna invest a high pick on LG at this time. This is the kind of quality we need. IMO it gets a bit risky to expect a 3rd or 4th rookie walk in a be a day-one starter. Not saying they can't but to put your all your eggs in their is risky.

Probably a good bet where you can expect the top 3-4 guards to go. Other words, it's unlikely one make it to us at 50.

Need to make it happen , Oline depth killed us last year and Tyrons health is still a ?

resign cooper and get a guard in the 4th or later. Cheap solution and builds towards the future.

Draft a guard late regardless.

But the inconsistent, often injured, coming off surgery Cooper?

Or multiple pro bowl Sitton? He has played with some average guys. Imagine him trenched next to Smith and Frederick?

No brainer. If you can get Cooper for 2-4 million a year, as compared to Sitton at 5-6? Sitton all day, everyday.

However, if Sitton wants to be paid (8m a year) I wouldn’t touch it.

You’d essentially have an All-Pro LT, LG, C, RG and a trending up RT

Was Sitton good for the Bears and just good in Green Bay where they are allowed to hold?

pass

Sign him. The Eagles won the SB by trading and signing players they needed in FA. Why don't we ever do something to improve this team?

Hey man getting that DT fella who retired after game 5... Nolan Carroll were amazing additions to get us over the hump following a 13-3 season!!

Jerrruhh and company are on the pulse getting and making fresh moves
