Of all the directions the Cowboys could go with their first overall draft pick, offensive tackle makes a good deal of sense. Sure, a cornerback could be a high priority if the team releases Terence Newman, but the offensive line is a crucial area in bad need of replenishment. OLT Doug Free is a building block, but ORT Marc Colombo may be damaged goods, having battled through several injuries. Other spots need repair inside, although those probably wouldn't be addressed in the draft until later on down the line. The question then would be if the Cowboys would take a right tackle with the ninth pick

I know the date is a week old but it's written like it's 3 months old. This guy comes off as so out of the loop , Maybe im just spoiled from this site with all the mock-madness But just reading the title it's like the biggest no duh in the world to real fans .

I just don't get the "RT argument". It's pretty weak, especially in regards to Smith. This isn't Gabe Carimi or Marcus Gilbert we are talking about.

Tyron Smith is an blue chip, cornerstone offensive tackle. Smith has the size, length, agility, balance, and athletic skill set to be a dominant LT or RT, imo. Plus, he's 20 years old and has huge upside. We are not talking about Gabe Carimi or Macus Gilbert here. Furthermore, we are not talking about inferior players like Nate Solder, Anthony Castonzo, or Derek Sherrod, either.

My comments had nothing to do with what the article said but more to do with the fact that us fans have known for 3+ months we might go OT in round one. this guy is late to the party that's all my friend.

i think this is definitely our biggest area of need, and i really hope we stick to our guns, remain at #9 and pick smith. i don't want to trade down or up, or anything crazy. just keep the 9th pick and select smith. come back in the 2nd and get bpa, hopefully a DT or a Corner.

I just think Smith is too big a risk. Carimi is a better pick to help immediately. Smith may turn out to be a Hall of Famer, but it will take a few years . Carimi may be just a borderline pro bowl guy but would start from day one.

Neither one of these guys were first round picks, let alone top ten picks.

The only question on Smith is can he start right away. He might have all the upside in the world but we need to replace Colombo ASAP.

Nobody knows which one of these tackles will turn out to be the best pro. If people knew, the draft wouldn't be littered with 1st rd busts like Tony Mandarich and late rd surprises like Brady or udfa's like Romo. We all have our opinions and they're all just guesses. From what I've seen I'm not all that impressed with Smith. Underwear Olympian IMO. Jah Reid from UCF could end up being the best of the bunch and a future HOF'r for all anyone knows.

Smith doesn't have much technique, leaves his feet way too often, doesn't have a great punch, is not a road grader although he's ok, holds too much, doesn't get out on the corner fast enough, and is very young which equates is not physically mature and strong yet.

Do you really want to use a number nine on a player who has the body frame and athleticism only to play tackle in the NFL at this time?
