The RB competition should be a good one.

Davis
Dowdle
Jones
and 2 draftees

or undrafted, or another FA veteran before camp.
Im sorry...but all of those players are scrubs.

Which means they are RB3 at best.

Remember...we can just draft a RB in rounds 3-4 and we are good to go.

And if our RB1 broke his leg...we are still ok.

Maybe I'm wrong but Davis appeared to me to be a very straight, north/south type runner. Not a lot of vision, timing or swerve. If you give him a hole he is going to look good but he didn't seem to be the type to set up blockers, shift into holes, etc.

He will get a chance and hopefully he does great but I'm not banking on it.
I feel the same way. Good depth guy to have on the roster but I am not counting on him of being a factor on this team unless he's contributing on Special Teams.

? 6 RBs will probably be in camp. Thinking you know exactly how that's going to play out is funny!

Agreed. He has some skills that we can work with. However, when he gets his chance to help out he has to do a better job than what he did when he entered the playoff game after Pollard was hurt.
He didn't get any carries in that game

When was he even in that game? He had zero attempts and zero receptions. We just had Zeke in there plodding away for 1 yard carries.

I saw him on for one play, and Dak was demolished that play. I assume that's why they didn't give him more run after TP went out. It was a shame because we needed him.

He came in and got blew up on a blitz. Almost got Dak killed. He was immediately benched and never saw the field again. A one play disaster.
What looked like an ill-fated RPO was a terrible call in that situation. Davis should have gotten some carries when Pollard went down because we all saw what happens otherwise in that situation.

No one said he got carries. However, he entered the game for 1 play and got blew up trying to pass block. Almost got Dak killed. You can't put a RB into a game if he can't protect the QB in pass coverage. It tips the defense off that you are running the ball.
I would judge him more on the whole of his season than on one play out of it. We would really need to see more of his pass blocking to have a feel for it.

With Pollard, Jones, and a Rookie RB to be determined all in front of him, Davis may struggle to get carries.
Don't know if Jones necessarily ends up ahead of Davis, especially if we draft a rookie. Jones is a stopgap in case either the rookie or Davis aren't good enough to beat him out. It's up to Davis to show he's better.

IMHO Davis is every bit as talented as Pollard albeit probably not quite as fast. I got a chance to watch his entire college career and the dude simply knows how to tote the rock and is a marvelous receiving threat. What he doesn't have even a little bit of is power. He runs hard but he is not very strong by NFL standards. I would say he has below average leg strength for an NFL RB. Maybe the full offseason will help in that department. He was also VERY injury prone in college. I don't think he had a single season in college that he didn't miss time. His blocking failure was the main reason he didn't see much time on the field last season.. He will absolutely have to fix that to play for the Cowboys this year.

I think all fans liked what they seen from Davis in TC & PS games, as well his limited time on the field during regular season.
This gives some insight on his performance and cap hit, and what needs to happen next.

I am anxious to see his improvement.
Thank you for this, I'm a believer in Malik Davis and think he can become something now with a chance for playing time.
I like his vision and ability to recognize and hit a seem behind the OL when it opens.

Agreed. What I was saying in the past was that Davis could have ran the dump off play Pollard got injured on. That play was there all day. But he is worse than Pollard in pass blocking. Pollard improved in that area but Elliot was dang good at it. If Malik didn’t get rolled on that play I think we would have seen him used.

Too early to call him a scrub at this point, lets see what he has in camp.
And I wouldn’t spend a low first round on a RB. To many decent ones coming out. That one kid will be long gone by 26..

No I didn't think he should have made the team. He's better suited for the XFL
Davis would be leading the league in yardage in the XFL.

I am anxious for us to upgrade the position. Malik was OK but doesn't seem like the solution to be the guy behind Pollard or to form a duo with Pollard. We should take a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft.
Me personally with drafting a rookie, Pollard and Ronald Jones I just see Malik back on practice squad or gone. If you look at Pollard....and you look at Ronald Jones it seems they need an RB with a little more short yardage power now is that Robinson or Roshan that part who knows.
