They seem to think more on ST's again for 2023, but can work his way into more playing time. But with Kearse, Hooker and Wilson, how much would it be.

I liked what limited time I seen from Bell. But another 2nd year player, as it will be interested to see any improvement even if limited snaps.
We will see a lot in PS games though.

He needs to be developed more this year. Kearse and Hooker are in the last year of their contracts. So he needs to show signs he can take over.
Yes those 2 can be resigned, but we know how that goes on here....cap, cap, cap ... what is the cap hit.
At this point we have zero idea of what he can defensively. 22 defensive snaps and 1 tackle. He had a good preseason, but we still dont know of that will translate to him being more than a Kavon Frazier

I think it will be a competition between Kearse and T. Smith to stay healthy, and he could get more playing time through injuries.

from the little I've seen him he reminds me of the safety version of Bland. Once he gets his snaps I'm betting he will become a very good player.

Worst case scenario is he become a core ST player IMO. This will likely replace Gifford as we are short linebackers.

Best case scenario is he plays a couple of hundred snaps and shows enough to be our 2024 box safety.

It's very hard to know how good Bell could become if he's not given the practice reps or playing time.

The Cowboys are and have been somewhat conservative about utilizing their free agent signings. Here's hoping to see more of him in 2023.

HE will be the in house solution for when one of these guys gets hurt or is up for a deal. He has at least this year and next.

What I like so much about Bell is that he hits like a linebacker. When he hits a guy… he goes down. It looks like when Donovan Wilson hits a guy. Just explosive.

If he can get his coverage to where it needs to be, he would be ideal to eventually take over Kearse’s role. Bell is a better tackler than Kearse though.

DQ is looking at a couple SS in this draft, so Bell could get leapfrogged if a Skinner, Overshown or Mape is selected....good news for Bell they rarely draft Safeties.

Great opportunity to develop and learn some nuances of the position for Bell, and be ready if his number is called. 2024 starters at S could be:
SS - Wilson
FS - Mukuamu
RV - Bell

Also, interested in the 2nd year jump of J. Thomas as a S. Good size (6'1, 212), speed (4.55) and was a kick returner. I can see Thomas playing the SS or Rover positions to compete with Bell.

And Israel (Izzy) too.

.. unless Bell really impresses and stands out on special teams in preseason .. i can see it being hard for him to get on the playing field, much less be game active.

But Noah Brown and Luke Gifford are gone now, so there will be some openings for one proving his special teams value.
