Abraham is 250 lbs. There is no way he plays end in a 3-4. He'll play OLB. The Jets already use him a lot in a 2 point stance.

Singleton isn't going to play inside linebacker either, and I doubt Fujita will beat out anybody they draft for outside linebacker if Singleton doesn't make it back.

Where did people come up with this "only 1 OLB in the 3-4 is the passrusher" utter nonsense? Their imaginations most likely, since there is no example of it in the NFL.

Singleton isn't coming back next season. This season, his job was to hold the SOLB spot until someone else was found. He would have probably held that spot a few more games this season, but he got injured. I don't think he will be invited back. They will find a younger, cheaper guy to come in and be a back up. That is unless they get Abraham, who by the way would get crushed playing DE in a 3-4. :D

Spears and Canty will be the starters at both end spots next season. That is why they were brought in to do. Bradie James has earned a starting spot at ILB. With Ware at the WOLB spot, that leaves the other two linebacker positions open for competition. Fujita will need to be re-signed and Burnett will need to stay healthy to compete for those spots with Shanle, Fowler and whomever else they bring in during the off season.

Maybe they have watched too many Giants and Chiefs games where only 1 OLB dominated the pass rush in LT and Derrick Thomas, respectively. The 3-4 is much more effective when there are two legitimate pass rushers from the OLB position. It isn't always easy to get, but that is what teams strive to achieve.

Agree with Ware but where's Bradie James who I thought played well at ILB. Lot decisions to make at other ILB as well as other OLB position. Don't think Fowler has shown enough to start at ILB yet, how much will Burnett improve in offseason weight conditiioning program and growth in personal maturity, how much will Fujita improve in 3-4 defense with minicamps & TC work, etc. Do we bring Singleton back or sign a top OLB familiar with 3-4 defense in FA? Still tune to see what we do beginning 1 March when FA signings can begin.

If we have enough cap room, if available I'd sign top quality FA OLB familiar with 3-4 and a top quality FA FS who really good cover man. Also must sign a good kicker if one is available; doubt Pats let their kicker go but maybe Colts will part with Vanderjet or someone else like GB kicker who supposed pretty good. Either way we got to get a PK asap.

Also if cap prevents us bringing back Glover then we need a backup for Ferguson because it too early to take a chance on Johnson unless Parcells & Cowboys know a lot more then we do about this kid. Want to bring back Ellis cause cap hit not so bad with him but he probably wants assurance he would get at least 40-50% playing time.

James had a break out year. He was all over the place. He finally showed why Parcells thought highly of him.

Ware and James should be the on the D, Shanle and Fowler are backups. You wanna win, get us some players.

I have faith that Burnett might turn it around. Brady James looked pretty bad his 1st 2 yeras in the league, and he turned it around pretty well.

I think who is going to be back is a better question to ask.

Daydreaming about pipedreams really doesnt do much for me.

Burnett needs to play mack inside linebacker, so he can plug holes and/or persue the ball carrier sideline to sideline. Using rip and swim moves against 330 lbs. offensive tackles is not his thing. I really don't know why they put him there to begin with, other than they had a need at the position pre-Fajita trade and they didn't want to yank the rookie around all over the place.

Upgrading the pass rush and providing a bookend to Ware is not a daydream. Its a harsh reality. Aside from Ware, the pass rush in nickel packages was absolutely pathetic the final two months of the season. Ellis had 0 sack in the final 5 games of the season, despite getting to play in a 4 man line in the nickel package. Zimmer had to call the blitz way too often at the end of the season to provide pass rush, because we couldn't get to the QB with a 4 man line.

Whether it be Abraham or a high draft pick, that position needs desperate upgrading. Its been a problematic position all season long.
