» First-round draft pick Zack Martin is penciled in at right guard, which gives the Cowboys the potential to boast one of the NFL's strongest offensive lines. ... Second-round pick Demarcus Lawrence will likely play in a defensive end rotation with George Selvie, Jeremy Mincey and Anthony Spencer. Although the latter was recently re-signed, his surgically repaired knee is not expected to be 100 percent by training camp. ... The other members of Dallas' draft class will have to battle for special teams duties if they earn roster spots.

Good God, our Dline is going to be bad this year.

It is not going to be one on name recognition that is for sure.

If Crawford is what they say he is, Lawrence is able to contribute as the speed rusher, Melton returns to form and we hit on the seventh rounders and Coleman, there is a chance it can be okay.

A lot of ifs though.

WR3 might as well be included too, since he'll essentially be a starter in our offense.

sharpied in.
part of the reason dallas never looked 1T high in draft as they felt mcclain was their guy.

I've reviewed him on the All-22 from 2013 and 2011. He is definitely an upgrade from Hayden.

Kinda disappointing to hear that Martin is penciled in as the RG. I would hope that we didn't spend our #16 overall selection on a RG. LG, that would be OK but you should be able to find RGs all through the draft. OTs and LG, even Centers, not so much.

Starters on paper look like a bottom of the top 10 grouping. Somewhere in the 8-10 range.
Unfortunately that's without considering Spencer is probably out the first 6 games and may be limited another 3 or 4 to get back in "football" shape.
It also comes even father back to the pack when depth is factored in.
And if Romo is hurt again it is bottom 3rd.

The good: Dallas is so young and the majority of the players, even bellcows like Dez and Tyron are still ascending.
Expectations are lower than they have been since BP took over so the chance to legitimately outperform them are there for once.
The offense has developed depth now. The OL has quality depth inside and out.
Escobar and Hanna are solid 4th Receiving options.
The FB will be able to provide true lead blocking.

The questions: Dallas has a top 10 LB group in pure talent... but they played like a bottom 5 group last year.
They were both injury prone and scheme/assignment stupid.
Eferblus is one of the most coveted LB coaches around but the 4-3 was new to him as well... can he teach it better this year??
The Secondary has 8-9 legit NFL bodies there.
But can any of them make more plays then they give up?
The pass rush has more talent then people think but Melton, Spencer, Bass, Crawford are coming off injuries.
McClain, Lawrence, Mincey all new to the team.
With all these new pieces can they put together a workable and dependable rotation?
DeMarco Murray, Ryan Williams and Lance Dunbar are the best potential backfield runners this team has had since Murray was a rookie and Felix was in shape.
But NONE of them can be described as durable.
Can Dallas cobble together 40 games total out of this group?

The Bad: Roster limits are just stupid in the NFL. Every NFL team is at the mercy of the football gods.
A couple injuries at one spot and you are playing street free agents.
It is equitable across the league but having injury luck play such a big part of the playoff rotation year to year is terrible.
And yes I am bitter because those football gods have beaten on Dallas the last couple years.
A team with little depth they've been handily spanked in specific areas.
With so much youth on the roaster and such a long drought since any real success most of these guys have no idea how to win December/January games.

The 'Oweboys" will have the top OL this year followed by Filthadelphia. Giants reload at WR with Beckham. Skins will be thin on both sides and Hatcher sited on his *** when he meets Tyron. We should be able to run on all the divisional teams and play fairly well against the run on D. Pressure and defensive backfield takeaways will be key. Prediction: 5-1 against the East.

Not sure what you expected to hear.
Martin was always projected as an RG here as a rookie and if he can assist with Free on that side it is a win/win. Bern is the ideal back up because he can play LG/OC/RG at a very high level but tends to get injured.
Martin's value is more long-term at RT.

Dallas wasn't blind to this and that's why Martin was option 5 for them at pick 16.
What you say is correct so not arguing any of that, just not sure why you'd be surprised.

I expect to hear that we are drafting a player with our 16th overall pick to play at a key position of need.

I would not say that I am surprised as much as I am disappointed. I mean, it's not as if we don't need a LG as well. We have a guy at the position that has a degenerative problem and can not stay healthy. I don't see why we would not consider playing Martin there. It's not as if he could not play the position. While we may project him to RG, it's pretty widely accepted that he could be a Pro Bowl type LG by most teams.

I know you cant fill every hole in one offseason but carter and durant should not be starting this year. Thats a really weak lb core right there. I wouldnt be amazed if those 2 are backups come midseason.

Presumably, the team thinks Leary-Martin will be better than Martin-Berny this year. I don't see why it's more complicated than that. And there's no particular reason to think he'll be locked in at RG throughout his career.

Not sure what you mean about how Leary "can not stay healthy". He stayed healthy all last season. Obviously, we don't know how long the knee will hold up, but there's no reason not to play him as long as it does.
