I read in an article just now that Lee is scheduled to play the Sam and Carter the Will. Before that, everything I read said Lee was projected to play the Mike. I haven't been following the Monte Kiffin news lately. Does anyone know who is being projected to play each spot?

I use Mike, Will, and Jake but they are MLB (ILB), SLB and WLB. Some use Mike (ILB), Sam (SLB) and Will (WLB) and this is probably most common.

Can you post a link to the article?

Larry Lacewell has claimed that Lee will be the MLB and Carter would be the WLB. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Kiffin decides to put Lee at the weak and Carter in the middle. Jerry has also said that they are hopeful Wilber will be the SLB.

Carter will be the Will and line up outside Ware for the most part. That sounds lethal to me. Lee will most of the time line up as the Mike.

It wasn't an article about Lee playing the SLB. It was just a random article on BleacherReport by Jason Henry where he says, "Lee is scheduled to play the Sam and Carter the Will." I'm not saying the article or the author is credible. I was just wondering if perhaps over the past few weeks Monte Kiffin had named Lee the Sam. I don't where Jason Henry is getting his information from.

If ever there was a Mike it is Lee. I think you could put Lee at the Sam and he would do well but I'd have to be forced into moving him away from the Mike. I don't know if there is some confusion from the move away from the 3-4 and its terminology and the 4-3 either.

In any event they need a Sam. Some have said Albright can't play the Sam but I'm not certain. If he can cover the TE then he might have a job. I'm certain there will be competition there.

Lee playing covered up will be unreal. His instincts will be on showcase and he can get to the ball even quicker now that he isnt shedding OL.

The best thing about Lee and Carter is that either can play on the outside or MLB...that gives the cowboys options from their current roster or if an inexpensive FA is out there....I still think possibly signing a guy like Urlacher in the middle with lee and carter on the outside makes this team REALLY good/better...I know he has been injured of late, but if affordable and healthy, he could stop the run while the others stop the short passing game...pipe dream? sure...but, they have to put someone out there as the 3rd LB...

I think Urlacher can play another year but he's a progress stopper. If he could do two years then I'd entertain the thought. Don't know.

Carter has the size and athletic ability to play at any of the 3 LB spots in Kiffin's or any other 4-3 defense. Lee can probably play any of the 3 as well.

In Chicago's version of this defense, Urlacher played the MLB and was the field general and star LB.

In Tampa Bay, Derrick Brooks played the WLB and was the field general and star LB.

Another interesting tidbit about the SLB and WLB is the size of the LBs that have played those positions. Most people tend to think SLB is a bigger player than the WLB; however, that has not necessarily the case.

Tampa Bay (2008, Kiffin's last year):
SLB 6-'0 227 Cato June
WLB 6'0 235 Derrick Brooks

Seattle 2012:
SLB 6'1 234 Nick Roach
SLB 6'1 236 J.T. Thomas

WLB 6'1 244 Lance Briggs
WLB 6'1 245 Jerry Franklin
WLB 6'1 226 Geno Hayes

Chicago 2012:
SLB 6'4 246 K.J. Wright
SLB 6'3 226 Mike Morgan

WLB 6'1 238 Leroy Hill
WLB 6'0 226 Malcolm Smith

I forgot to mention that BleacherReport pays fans money to submit "articles". BleacherReport's only goal is to get webpage hits. They have Zero concern about credibility.

I couldn't agree more. Lee is the ideal MLB and will be even more of a monster at Mike. I think Wilbur is the ideal Sam and would like to see him step up and take the spot.

If we keep Spencer I really want him at LB. he has great speed and coverage ability. I see Lee at Mike,Carter at Will and Spence at Sam

This is just another reason to not read BleacherReport. They do not have credible reporters, just random people can write anything they want and post it. You and I can put what ever we want.

I guarantee you that won't happen.

I know but it's stupid. Spencer isn't a pure pass rusher,my is talents would be so better utilized in the second level, stopping the run and covering TEs and the flats. Then use Crawford and company as your DEs

He would get locked up in coverage more (and get abused) and he's a better pass rusher than you give him credit for.

Spencer over the last 3 years has been great at rushing the passer.....not so much in terms of sacks........but in terms of pressures and causing backfield havoc.

Last year he finally put it all together with regards to sacks. If we can find a way to keep him, switching to the 3-4, should make it a field day for Spencer and Ware. I see Spencer being our Robert Mathis.
