I would understand it if it was a repeat offense. You know, like it is now?

They need less to judge, not more. This will change the game with regard to hitting a QB. It's already shady with the slide rule.

Speaking of defenseless player.
Pearce had a run in Dallas when it seemed he ran through the entire defense.

GMFB went over this play over and over on Kyle Brandt, the idiot hater. In his Angry runs segment.
I noticed Pearce lowered him helmet and initiated helmet to helmet contact with Hooker as he was tackled.

Remember some years ago when Zeke did this, and was called for a personal foul, lowering his helmet. Negated a 1st down. Wonder why this was not called in our favor.
That was the 1st time it was called. And I don’t think it has been called on an offensive player since.

If a hit on a defenseless player results in a penalty and the defenseless player getting knocked out of the game, the Player making the hit should be ejected.

I remember the play and have never seen it called any other time.

When a QB starts to slide, he is down. He doesn't have to be touched down. If defensive guys are hitting them while sliding they should be ejected IMO. They are getting away with useless cheap shots every game.

It is one of those calls that may happen every blue moon. Same with RB being called for facemask, seldom ever called but now and then it get flagged

All this stuff does is hurt defense even more - contact sports are too bang bang and it's tough to even get a thought out in a second to play within these convoluted rules.

The QBs wait to slide until the defensive player is already in the position to hit the guy and its to late for them to stop.... then its the defensive guys fault????

often times defender is trying to get there and unable to pull up. These QB will wait until the last second and you expect a defensive player to be able to just pull up?

I never understand this "defenseless player," stuf anyways. Wasnt Gallup defenseless on the TD that wasnt? He was up , made the catch and got drilled before he even came back onthe ground. Is that not defenseless? Please explain to me how that is not defenseless?

Seeing offensive statistics the past decade, and I don't know how anyone comes away with the conclusion that what the rules to defenses is a good thing.

Protecting players? Guess this isn't the good ole days... remember bounty gate against Troy Aikman? I blame that Saints coach that was caught on tap repeatedly saying "Go for the head."

I may be wrong but I think the hits on a "defenseless" receiver need to be to the head for the penalty to be called. Otherwise way too many times when a defender is trying to jar the ball loose it would be a flag.

Ejections like in college would not work in the NFL because of the roster limitations.

Yes, that play you speak of took place a few plays after this one. But a QB doesn't need his head for anything. Lol.

I hope this rule fails, they do this in college and seeing guys get ejected weekly is horrendous

The spirit of the rule is fine. Enforcing it is the problem.

The majority of ejections look incidental, but the refs are so CYA that they err on the side of caution.

In fairness, it’s hard to determine what is and isn’t incidental.

I agree it tend to be a judgement call in many instance. I watch it in college and I think more times than not the ejection was not warranted. I'm all for guys getting ejected for blatant roughing. How many recall Jim McMahon getting lifted up in the air and intentionally pile drived into the ground by GB? No question that was intentional and no room for that but when I see in college level most have been poor calls
